Simple-Scan
Hi, I just upgraded from 6.4 to 6.5. In 6.4 I had a scanner program "simple-scan". I can't seem to get it for 6.5. I tried the elrepo and forge repositories but they are not available there. I tried to rebuild it from source but that didn't work. Any suggestions would be appreciated. FYI: My Fujitsu scanner is not TWAIN compliant but it works with

There are a few ways to install a newer version of sane-backends on EL6. One is to rebuild a src.rpm from Fedora. The other is to use the linuxtech-backports repo [1]. I have even built it from a tarball but this should not be necessary. If you need more assistance, let us know. Akemi [1] http://pkgrepo.linuxtech.net/el6/backports/

GUI volume control/mixer in C6??
Just bringing up a Centos-6 (x86_64, FWIW) and I can't find the mixer app... on my C5 box(es), double click on the speaker icon in the top panel and I get a mixer app appears on the screen. My new C6 box doesn't do that. I've installed all the PULSEAUDIO RPMS I can find, but still nothing. what am I missing here? thanks! Fred

Need a bit of 'archeocomputing' help on CentOS 7.
...he internet). Once updated and the compat-glibc2.1 installed will try out the app in a testing mode, then pull over the database (postgresql 6.5, but I have a good dump I can restore into the C2.1 postgresql) and bring it back live. Now, there is one other option that I found this morning: the LinuxTech repo for CentOS 6 has a libc5 for CentOS 6. I'm setting up a testing C6 i386 guest, and will try out the LinuxTech libc5. If that works that will be the route I go, since C6 is still updated. I'm not going to abandon the C2.1 setup yet, though, since the app I'm using may need so...

Need a bit of 'archeocomputing' help on CentOS 7.
I have an application with is binary-only, does its job well, and is only available for either libc5 (!) or early early glibc2.0 (!!). It has been running on a Red Hat Linux 5.2 (NOT RHEL; RHL) server for a really long time, and it honestly does its job and it's not easily replaced by an open-source solution at the moment. So, I need to do one of the following things: 1.) Run Red Hat

SeaMonkey on CentOS 6.3
Been a while since I used seamonkey, but needed it yesterday. The old version I had installed (2.11) threw an error when I tried it, so I grabbed 2.12.1 from mozilla.com. It throws the same error: $ /usr/local/seamonkey/seamonkey & [1] 7050 $ XPCOMGlueLoad error for file /usr/local/seamonkey/libxpcom.so: libxul.so: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory Couldn't

Also the PC couldn't resolve the domain even with correct DNS IP set.
