I configured Kerberos with my realm information and have added the

Linux update knobbles Samba
...now. I am just a Samba user. Help will be much appreciated 8-)
I have been using Mandriva 2007 Linux and have installed Mandriva 2008; Samba
has stopped working as described below. What is wrong?
* The hardware is a local LAN controlled by an Actiontec DSL gateway
The computers on the LAN are LinuxServer (192.168.0.3) and XPHomeClient
(192.168.0.99)
* XPHomeClient has not been altered from its Mandriva 2007 configuration
except that the IP address, 192.168.0.3, of LinuxServer has been put into
WINS. This enables me to refer to LinuxServer by name on XPHomeClient.

Browsing 3.0.2 from Windows 2000 domain

So far, I CAN browse the server by typing the IP address on the windows
side, but I cannot log onto the computer from just browsing the network.
The samba file server shows through browsing the network on the WinXP

"\\LINUXSERVER is not accessible. You might not have permission to use
this network resource. Contact..."
Also, when I try to use server manager from my Windows 2000 Server, I get
"access is denied". I thought I can control shares from here?

smb access problem through WinXP to samba 2.2.8a-34(SuSE Linux)
Hi there - apologies for the long-ish mail!
I recently performed a SuSE online update to my system, and since then
Samba has refused to work properly. After the update, nmbd produces the
infamous message:

Even after trawling Google, I don`t really understand what this message

Everything was working well, until we got Welchia Virus. We removed the

Problem joining Windows machine to domain managed by Samba PDC
Hi, I am running into a problem that seems to occur to a lot of people, but
I haven't yet worked out what the solution is. I have Samba version 3.0.3
installed in a Linux box (let's call it linuxserver) and I want it to run a
Windows domain so that I can manage machines and users. I have a Windows box
(call it windowsclient, running Windows 2003 Server) that I'd like to join
to the domain (call the domain mydomain).
1. I have the following relevant parameters (among lots of others) set in...

It goes out of the window, or it stays in windows
I have installed RedHat Linux 7.2 and tried to get Samba working.
I have tried a lot, but I keep bouncing the fact that on the linuxserver it
is not possible to lookup itself using: nmblookup linuxserver.
All other machines in the network are ok. I can find them through the
nmblookup easy.
Broadcast is ok, subnet mask brought back to 255.255.255.0, in fact it seems
that all is in place as I have created a separate network for this...

Unable to see linux files on windows using Samba
...ines ( we use windows 2000 )
So, seeing windows files on linux is not a problem.
We also wanted to go the other way( seeing linux files on windows )
I searched on google but to no avail. I set the lmhosts file and
still nothing works.
On the windows network list, my linux server shows up as
"linuxserver.vnetwo" where "linuxserver" is the name of the server
and "vnetwork" is the name of the network.
Now, the windows machine on which I would like to see my linux files
is not the primary domain controller. Nor do I want to make my
linux box the primary domain controller....

SAMBA using existing users and passwords on Linux
Hello Rowland. Thanks for answering.
The linux server is already in the AD domain and resolving Ad users as
normal.
To map the linux server share using AD users I use the following command:
net use \\linuxserver\share /U:AD_user
and it works perfectly.
But I would like to use the same command for users who are in /etc/passwd,
like this:
net use \\linuxserver\share /U:linuxserver_user
and so it doesn't work, it gives an invalid user error.
To work with users who are in /etc/passwd I have to use t...

deployment of software
...software (for example
updates of E-Mail Client, Windows Patches) to my Clients.
I was playing around with AutoIt and some "switch-user-tools" for
windows, which really works but also is kind of complicated and time
consuming.
In my environment, every user got his own Logonscript on the Linuxserver
where I place the call for an installation (for ex Thunderbird update).
If the installation on the client succeeded, I need a feedback signal
from the user (e-mail, phone call...) that the script ran properly and I
can remove the call in this script.
I could also use one Logonscript for all u...

puppet and custom nagios object variables
Nagios support "custom object variables" (http://nagios.sourceforge.net/docs/nagioscore/3/en/customobjectvars.html) buy prefixing them with an underscore:

_rack_number R32
}
However, I can''t determine how to use these with puppet nagios resources. I''m assuming they aren''t supported, but I''m also hoping that I just missed it in the documentation. Is anyone creating custom nagios o...

A problem about ICMP Destination Unreachable
Hello,
I have installed samba in a
Linux RedHat 8.0 PC in my lab
as a file server. The clients
of samba are PCs with MS Windows98.
Now I meet some problems, I can see
samba server name in Network Neighborhood,
but when I click the icon, I get this
error message after a long delay:
Cannot link to Linuxserver(server name).
And I used Ethereal to track the packets
to find the problem, I found that there
were errors like "ICMP: Destination Unreachable"
when packets came from server to client.
The same problem occured when I used
FTP from client to check the TCP.
Ping is ok(I can ping form s...

SAMBA using existing users and passwords on Linux
Hello everyone.
I'm back because I decided to follow your advice and deploy the system
using a new version of SAMBA with encrypted passwords.
I added the SAMBA server in the AD domain without any problems and I am
already accessing the shares with AD users.
However I have a new problem for which I need help.
When I try to access SAMBA shares with local Linux users, it is necessary
to include
