SMP/PCMCIA
I have two sacrificial lambs -- one is an SMP box, the other one''s a laptop, but I don''t see kernel-smp or kernel-pcmcia-cs packages. So, can I use the ext3 patch on an SMP box or a laptop? -- Sam

can't access samba share from xp
Hello, I am running slackware 9 and I have also updated samba to version 2.2.8a from the slackware security update. I can access my xp box with no problems from my linux box but I cannot access my linux box from my xp box. I have been on several forums and IRC channels and no one seems to have much insight into my problem, someone recommended trying to post my problem here. I have gotten

State of the union
The list has gotten pretty quiet over the last week. As I understand it, we are down to the following big ticket items: 1. Quotas on meta journaling 2. ext3 + LFS 3. Various minor bugs. Is this accurate? -- Keith Barrett Red Hat HA Team

No PCMCIA Support?
I see that the ext3 kernel being used is an enterprise kernel which doesn''t build the PCMCIA modules generally. Any chance of getting the SRPM so that testing on a laptop can actually be possible? It''s too much fun to have a laptop and just hit the power button and not have to fsck:) Jeremy -- Jeremy Katz katzj@linuxpower.org | jlkatz@eos.ncsu.edu http://linuxpower.org |

Intel ICH10R on CentOS 5.4
Hey there.. I was wondering if anyone could share experiences they have had with the Intel ICH10R SATA controller? I tried looking around but all I could find were RAID references, I have no interest in using the RAID functionality just basic SATA JBOD. Wondering if there are any gotchas for performance, drivers, quality etc. I normally don't touch anything that is not hardware RAID though

Converting / to ext3.
My guinea pig laptop has only a / partition, and a small /boot partition. I installed the ext3 kernel succesfully (I think). Now, how do I get / converted to ext3? I'm thinking: * Use mkbootdisk on a floppy, to create a boot disk with the ext3 kernel. * Boot off the floppy. * Follow the instructions to convert / to ext3. * Change the filesystem type in /etc/fstab to ext3. * Reboot.

Compiler Cert Suggestions
Somewhere on the download page you should make *very* clear that audio encoders in general are *very* compiler dependent. To that end, when you approach 1.0 release, you should enumerate known working and broken compilers (including which optimization flags are recommended for each). These checks should probably also be included in the .spec file to prevent people from rpm --rebuilding without

We are tried to count how many files belong to certain group. Our system administrator told us "non-owner" can easy change file group name to another. I have been tried several combination and never successful (only ROOT can change file group to other name). Does anyone know how "no-owner" can change file group name? Thanks.

Monitor power save question
I decided to try the x86_64 version of CentOS 5 on my new desktop since it has an Athlon 64 X2 CPU. The one really perplexing oddity is that the monitor no longer goes to power save mode (standby) if the system is idle long enough (e.g., overnight). The "power management" option is set to put the display to sleep after thirty minutes. The display gets blanked but it never goes to

Impossible to connect to ANY yp server
Greetings I'm having problems announcing my stream on any yp server, using Icecast v1.3.12 compiled with the optimization support.. I have tried every directory server I could find, but I still get the same result. When I start icecast with an yp server available, I get this: [09/Feb/2003:14:52:47] Using xaudiocast directory server [yp.icecast.org:80/cgi-bin/touch] .. and then I don't

Boot from FC SAN CentOS 5.1 x86-64
Anything special needed to boot from a SAN in CentOS 5.1 x86-64 ? We have a new system running a QLA2342 FC HBA connected to a SAN, have a volume exported to it and would like to boot from it. We PXEboot kickstart and that works, the installer sees the disk, installs to it, and reboots. When GRUB tries to load all it prints is "GRUB" and sits there. When we try the Xen edition of
