an IDE for R... JGR perhaps?
Hi, I've just been browsing for IDEs for R, see e.g. http://www.linuxlinks.com/article/20080413133953606/R.html It's probably highly subjective, but which free IDE is the best one around? For the Python language, I've always been using IDLE. I like the syntax highlighting and the syntax suggestions the user gets while typing a function name. Ideally, the IDE sho...

Streaming from South by Southwest
Hi: I read the following at http://www.vorbis.com/ot/20040209.html#xiph-org-at-sxsw In addition, SXSW will once again stream over 100 live performances in Ogg Vorbis with Icecast 2 for those who can't attend the festival. Some of the Xiph team will assist in this project where simultaneous streams will be sent from 10 stages through 4 days of the event. Is there anywhere I can

Hi: Just to add that most, if not all, that ices does can already be done using other Windows tools. You can stream a playlist unencoded with Ezstream. You can stream raw soundcard input with streamTranscoder. And you can do all that and more with the various Oddcast plugins. Recommnded system
Can't find any recommended system specs on the website. What are they? Will it run well on a Celeron 1GHz? How about a 700Mhz? I'm asking because the company I'm hosting through is running a special on 700Mhz and 1Ghz servers, and if Icecast will run on these, I may just go ahead and lease 4-5 more to move my icecast stuff onto dedicated servers.

Ices 2.0 beta3
This is to announce the release of ices 2.0 beta 3. The source client for streaming Ogg Vorbis to Icecast 2. After far too much time having passed since beta 2, where many fixes and updates have been applied, it's time to push for a full 2.0 release. This beta is really to flush out any remaining issues, so no new functionality is to be added until after the 2.0 release. Download from

Legal issues
Greetings! I've been asked to set-up an Icecast stream / live webcam for a small club, and I'm worried about what kind of payments the owner would have to make to stream the club's music over the internet. I found this article: <http://www.copyright.gov/carp/webcasting_rates_final.html> but I still don't know what to make of it. Would we have to pay $0.07 per song the DJ

Firewall frustration
Well FWbuilder is NOT easy. The documentation does not match the current GUI. Now the box is locked up. I will have to pull it again, hook it up to a kybd/VGA and reset iptables.... Maybe Shoreline with webmin.... Problem is I want a REAL router/firewall with little work. Both public and private nets have routable addresses. No NATing for me! I just help write the RFC ;) And all the

How to Backup and Restore MBR within Logical Volumes?
Hi All, I have several Xen virtual machines within logical volumes using LVM2. I did not use disk images for performance reasons. Conventionally, if I want to clone my virtual machines, I have to dd the LV to an image file. But this consumes a lot of time and harddisk space. So, instead of doing that, I want to use losetup and kpartx with my logical volumes, which contain operating systems of

Also, there is a config option in Samba a...
