Good afternoon from Singapore, I need SERIOUS help on GRUB in CentOS 7.5 1804. Please refer to my installation notes at?http://lists.linuxfromscratch.org/pipermail/lfs-chat/2018-October/028964.html According to Petros' instructions, I need GRUB Legacy 0.97 for my Extremely Simple Linux. But GRUB Legacy 0.97 has been deprecated in CentOS 7.5. GRUB2 is installed by default on CentOS 7.5. So I defied Petros' instructions and used GRUB2 fo...

test_metaflac fails in make check for flac 1.1.2 after --add-padding is performed
...e the segfault happens All other tests in 'make check' passed. I commented out this portion of the test script and got a failure in the next line. I also tried adding --dont-use-padding (since that was reported to be a previous workaround), but it still failed. My linux distribution is a linuxfromscratch 6.1.1 I built flac using blfs 6.1 directions: LIBS=-lm ./configure --prefix=/usr && make Only thing interesting in the make output was the warnings about inlining failures, in bitbuffer.c and md5.c ~/sources/flac-1.1.2$ gcc -v Reading specs from /usr/lib/gcc/i686-pc-linux-gn/3.4.3 Configu...

e2undel for ext3
...o use it, but it seems to not be able to recover stuff on ext3. Is there a difference in the superblock structure the way ext3 unlinks files? I am sure they are there still obviously. unix password sync trouble
Hi, I'm having some trouble with my password databases. I'm using my self-made Linux installation (LFS, http://www.linuxfromscratch.com) and I'm trying to make it a Samba PDC. I'd like to keep both UNIX and SMB passwords synchronized. I managed to make passwd adapt both passwords (using some PAM-configuration). However, if I want to change my password using smbpasswd I get the following error logged: smbd/chgpasswd.c:f...

isolinux bug?
Please forgive me if this is a known issue or "feature". I didn't notice anything in the list archives or the docs, so I'm assuming this is a bug. I was attempting to create a bootable LFS cd using the instructions found at http://hints.linuxfromscratch.org/hints/boot-cd_easy.txt. I wasn't following the steps exactly as I had some personal changes I wanted to make. One of them was the name of my kernel image. This is where I found the bug(?). Instead of using lfskernel for the name as Thomas outlined in his instructions, I chose to use &...

How do you set the refresh frequency for the X server?
During the kickstart installation of the CentOS 4.3 systems I recently built, anaconda probed for the video card (Intel 945) and monitor (NEC MultiSync 2070NX). The optimal setting for this monitor is 1600x1200 @ 60Hz. The X server is configured to use 1600x1200, but it is using a higher refresh rate, which causes the monitor to display an error message, and it also locks you out of

wine 0.9.14, Xorg7.1 and nvidia driver
Hi all Of interest to developers and Linux users with nvidia cards running Xorg7.1. 3 days ago I built wine-0.9.14 from source on a linuxfromscratch system. The built went fine. However, the fonts on all wine dialog boxes (e.g. winecfg) were invisible. I spent several hours rebuilding, trying out different combinations of freetype / fontforge etc. Anyway, my box uses an nvidia card and for 3d graphics accel I use the nvidia driver (version 8...

Best Linux distibution for ruby on rails developement?
Hi, I am on Kanotix linux since the first distribution was released by Kano. However I am tired of the "if it can go wrong it will go wrong on Kanotix" pattern. Please recommend a distribution that by your experience is best for ruby on rails development and need no hour-long tweacks for even "simple" tasks. Thanks, Jan Martin -- Posted via http://www.ruby-forum.com/.
