HOWTO Samba on RH 7.0
...hile I'm recovering from gall bladder surgery, I thought
I'd do something useful (since sitting up is about the only
comfortable position I can find)... like create a HOWTO
Samba (-2.0.7-21ssl) on RH7 (w/ xinetd-2.1.8.9pre14).
I have already sent off the request to the HOWTO coordinator
at linuxdoc.org (has anyone noticed that the listed email
address <discuss@linuxdoc.org> for the coordinator is
inop?).
I'm hopeful linuxdoc will write back and say this document
has already been created; that I have just failed to locate
it. If so, wonderful!!
If this HOWTO has not been created,...

[ANNOUNCE] netfilter project calls for volunteers
...ment of it's user community.
While we receive lots of code contributions (new matches/targets,
patches, bugfixes, ...), there is lots of work in different areas that
needs to be taken care of.
The netfilter core team is currently looking for help in the following
areas:
1) Converting our old Linuxdoc SGML HOWTO's to Docbook XML
The various HOWTO's have been written years ago, in the now deprecated
Linuxdoc SGML DTD. There is an XSL to transform it into linuxdoc SGML,
and it needs some further manual cleanup after that transformation
process. This needs to be done for the english mast...

Whats all this Linux business anyway?
Alright lads,
I'm Rick Masters and I know very little about networks, but for some mad
reason I have been given the job of setting up a Linux File Server on an NT
network. How the dickens does that work? Anyway I need as much help as you
can be bothered to give me. And there is a free pizza in it for the guy who
helps me get it working :-)
You are all super and great fun (I'm sure).

<netmask>
I refer you to http://www.linuxdocs.org/HOWTOs/BootPrompt-HOWTO-3.html#ss3.4
for a
complete explanation of the parameters
The second argument (ommitted here - was not being used) is the nfs server
I have found that all of the relevant parameters need to be specified or TCP
will not configure
Hope this helps.

Creating RPMs for Packages
My company is trying to manage R installations across a number large
SMP machines. We're thinking out the best way to manage the packages
installs and updates. They would be happy if we could work out RPM's
for package installations (traceable, easily facilitated with existing
sw management tools).
I don't know a lot and RPMs beyond how to use them, but it seems
plausible to write R

Samba And and NetApp Filer
I need some help. I can map the NetApp filer, but when I do a 'ls' in the
directory I get errors. Saying that the file or directory does not exist and
I know the directories and files do, you can see them when you map the
NetApp with NT. If you know the name of the directory you can change into
it. I can also map NT with samba just fine with no problems. The NetApp is
running a CIFS server

I just installed Red Hat v. 6.2 and would like to configure SAMBA. I was wondering if you could point me to some good documentation sites that can lead me step by step through setup and configuration of SAMBA. I'll be experimenting with it in the meantime but your help will be extremely helpfull.
Thank you,
