Finding memory usage
I have a CentOS 7 server that is running out of memory and I can't
figure out why.
Running "free -h" gives me this:
????????????? total??????? used??????? free????? shared? buff/cache??
available
Mem:?????????? 3.4G??????? 2.4G??????? 123M??????? 5.9M???????
928M??????? 626M
Swap:????????? 1.9G??????? 294M??????? 1.6G
The problem is that I can't find 2.4G of usage.? If I look

Almost 3GB available on a 48GB machine is very close to "free memory is
0" and "used memory is close to total", which is why I?m wondering what
I can get away...

mariadb server memory usage
Hi,
is this ok for a database server, or do I need to turn the memory allowance
down? The machine has 48GB and mariadb is allowed about 40. The
machine is a dedicated database server.
Mysql seems to go up to what top says is virtually allocated under some
circumstances; I don?t know what mariadb does. I don?t want anything
get killed because memory runs out. Swap should prevent that anyway,

Disk cache is not recommended for databases servers.
it'll slow down the performance. More ram equals more performance.
This link help me understand memory usage on linux.

Basically you need yo worry about
free memory is close to 0
used memory is close to total
available memory (or "free + buffers/cache") has enough room (let's say,
20%+ of total)
swap used does not change
Warning signs of a genuine low memory situation that you may want to look...

Virtualisation, guests cached memory and density
Hello,
We all know linux distros will use most of the free memory available
for caching stuff, I/O buffers etc (hence sites like linuxatemyram.com).
In many virt scenarios we have some sort of memory deduplication
mechanisms, such as KSM on KVM (don't know how it's called in Vmware).
My situation is one where I need to cram up as many virtual machines as
I can on a single hypervisor and I believe KSM does not work for the
memo...

Right, and that website says that you should look at the "available"
number in the results from "free", which I what I was referencing.? They
say that a healthy system should have at least 20% of the memory
available.? Mine was down to 17% in what I posted in my email and...

centos 5.5 check memoray usage too high???
We have DELL R900 server with 128GB RAM (CENTOS 5.5)in it. This server only have one application running and few people use it.
Every week I ata least get one or two messages from monitor tool mail to me say:
Message=Memory Utilization is 92.02%, crossed warning (80) or critical (90) threshold.
Since server have 128 GB RAM and only 1 application. I really don't belive that. Does there
