rsync-2.5.5 memory eater problem
Hi,
we ran into a little problem with rsync-2.5.5.
Setup: you run rsync-2.5.5 as normal rsync over ssh
(ie. not connecting to a rsync server). If you start
such a rsync but interrupt the pulling process with Ctrl-C,
the process on the other side may start to allocate all
memory on the remote machine.
As fa as we have analyzed the problem, the remote rsync
process wants to issue a error message

rsync 2.5.5 core dump
-----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE-----
I added the following code to log_exit():
void log_exit(int code, const char *file, int line)
{
static int error_count=0;
if(error_count++ > 10) {
abort();
}
To force it to bail earlier instead of overflowing the stack.
As you can see at frame #50, it is trying to log that the connection went
away unexpectantly.

encoder problem
...d some audio noise in a
sample I encoded using oggenc. It happens at both the '128' and '160'
bitrate settings. I've posted the snippet of the original wav file, as well
as the noisy ogg so you can try it for yourself.
You can download them both from
http://engsoc.queensu.ca/lintec/ogg/
I've bzip2'd the wav file to keep download speeds a little quicker.
If you're curious where the sample is from, it's track 4 on disc 2 of "The
Fragile" by Nine Inch Nails.

icecast2 formats
I've been looking over icecast2 and notice that it's all ogg. Are there
plans for mp3 support in it, or will that be left to icecast1? I love ogg,
but still have a sizeable set of mp3's from before I found it. Is it
possible to have a stream of varying formats where songs could be either mp3
or ogg and the listening program uses the appropriate plugin/player to
handle decoding, or
