linprocfs: extern declaration of a static variable
...he freebsd-emulation list
on this, so i'm passing it on myself. My original post can be found at:
http://lists.freebsd.org/pipermail/freebsd-emulation/2003-August/000136.html
A few days ago, i found myself in need of mounting a vmware image on my
old 4.7-STABLE system. To do this, i needed linprocfs functioning
properly, but this module failed with an "exec format error". Further
investigation revealed that nextpid was undefined. So i checked the
source, and discovered that in kern/kern_fork.c, nextpid was defined
statically. It was defined nowhere else, but in

linprocfs patch for RELENG_6_4 (to make flash9 work), please test!
Hi!
I've updated the patch I've tested on 6.3 for 6.4 (only offsets differ),
if anyone can test it I can file a PR so it hopefully :) can be committed:
http://people.freebsd.org/~nox/linprocfs-6.4.patch
(same patch for 6.3:
http://people.freebsd.org/~nox/linprocfs-6.3.patch
) The original posting with the patch for RELENG_7 that I used is here:
http://lists.freebsd.org/pipermail/freebsd-emulation/2008-October/005331.html
You probably want the updated libflashsupport.so from in there to...

Has anyone had the nvidia driver successfully work for them? I ended up crashing everytime I tried to use X. All I'm interested in is the use of my tv-out on my nvidia card. any input is appreciated

FreeBSD Security Advisory: FreeBSD-SA-00:77.procfs
...nstances of the procfs filesystem using the umount(8)
command:
# umount -f -a -t procfs
Disable the automatic mounting of all instances of procfs in
/etc/fstab: remove or comment out the line(s) of the following form:
proc /proc procfs rw 0 0
The linprocfs filesystem, which provides additional interfaces to
Linux binaries to emulate the Linux procfs filesystem, is believed not
to be vulnerable to the problems described in this advisory and
therefore does not need to be unmounted. Note however that some Linux
binaries may require the presence of both...

Stuck in geli
Rarely, a geli partition I have freezes a process in bufwait state. It
occurs after an ATA timeout message:
Aug 5 03:47:13 thor kernel: ad10: TIMEOUT - WRITE_DMA retrying (1 retry left) LBA=219028637
The geli partition resides on an Intel MatrixRAID RAID1 mirror using the
ICH9R chipset (Asus P5K-E/WIFI). Killing (even -9) the process does not
work. Rebooting is the only solution, yet the

procfs + chmod = no go
Hello,
I was wondering if it was possible to limit user access on /proc
without having to use securelevels.
For some reason chmod 751 /proc (or 750) does nothing.
Is this possible on FreeBSD 4.9 ? Can't find anything about it in the
manual pages. Just want to prevent lusers from running:
for file in /proc/*/cmdline; do cat $file; echo; done
