use of setsockopt(SO_LINGER)
I would like to remove setsockopt(SO_LINGER), as there does not seem
to be a reason for its use. If you know of specific reasons we should
keep any of these let me know, or run this patch in local test trees
where possible.
This is against OpenBSD, but should apply to portable with some
fuzz.

AD Replication issues due to lingering objects
We are trying to migrate away from out Windows 2008 R2 server to a Samba
based DC. At this point we have both the Windows server as a Samba server
as DC in the domain. After a while, we noticed that changes from the Samba
server were not replicated to the Windows machine. Further investigation
show that there are 2 lingering objects that prevent replication, and it
has been for quite a while.

rsync 3.0.7 network errors on MS-Windows
I am experiencing intermittent network failures on rsync 3.0.7 built using
cygwin for Windows-XP (SP2). I am using GCC v4.4.2 and the latext version
of cygwin.
The rsync error long indicates things like:
rsync: writefd_unbuffered failed to write 4092 bytes to socket

Problem Promoting Windows DC into existing Samba 4 domain
Hello, I am working on adding a Windows 2008 R2 DC into an existing Samba 4
domain. The Samba 4 domain has two DCs running Samba 4.2.
I was able to successfully run dcpromo on the Windows server and it appears
that nearly everything has replicated except for the DomainDnsZones
partition.
I have completed the steps in this article for the AD NC Replica command
and I also turned off Strict

Segmentation fault
Hello,
Last night there appears to have been a loop in the network of my colocation provider. Somehow this loop/packet flood caused tinc to crash. I guess that, even though it seems to have restarted, it did not manage to reconnect/re-open the tap device/something else went wrong; the machine itself was communicating with the internet but I could not access it over the VPN.

Lingering IPC$ connections
I'm running the latest samba release (2.2.8a), and everything seems to
be running fine. Except for something that does not look quite right.
Connections to the IPC$ share are being left behind by samba once the
user has logged off. And what's even more troubling is that the pid
associated with the lingering IPC$ connection is picked up by the next
smbd process, and then you have one pid

Lingering dhclient issue
I recently reconfigured some CentOS 4.3 systems that were using DHCP
to use static IP addresses. At the same time, the systems were moved
to a new VLAN. Here is the approximate sequence of events that took
place:
1. ifdown eth0
2. edit /etc/sysconfig/network-scripts/ifcfg-eth0 with static IP
address
3. wait for network folks to reconfigure switch
4. ifup eth0

Lingering status?
Is it expected that MiddleMan.ask_stats will return a status for a worker
that has been MiddleMan.delete_worker''ed? The worker isn''t showing up in
MiddleMan.query_all_workers, so it seems that is shouldn''t have a status
either.
Is there a way to define a callback that is called at deletion, to reset the
status, or do I need to write my own method to reset the status

X32 bugs around "cannot select" lingering around
Hi,
There's several, to my eyes, somewhat related looking bugs:
Bug 36743 - Cannot select: X86ISD::CALL ICE with -mx32 -O2 -fno-plt
https://bugs.llvm.org/show_bug.cgi?id=36743
Bug 34268 - JITting of x32 code on x64 fails with crash or instruction selection error.
https://bugs.llvm.org/show_bug.cgi?id=34268
There's unfortunately been no investigation.
I'm asking because I hit

Socket options not properly set for ssh and sshd.
I mentioned this problem in a previous post (in November). This time
I'm including a patch.
Version: OpenSSH_2.3.0p1
Keywords: setsockopt keepalive hang masquerade interactive
Symptom: For protocol 2, socket options (especially keepalive) are not
being properly set for OpenSSH_2.3.0p1, even when request in the config
files.
Furthermore (for either protocol), keepalive is only set for

messages lingering in .Trash/new instead of .Trash/cur
We're running Dovecot rc15 on Solaris 9, providing IMAP access to e-mail
stored in Maildir++. I've noticed that a significant number of message
files are currently sitting in the directories ~/Maildir/.Trash/new/. I
would have expected that all messages in .Trash would be in the /cur
subdirectory (as most are), and I'm not sure how they're landing in /new.

Lingering WinXP SP2 issues
After apparently flawed testing, we rolled out SP2 for XP this week as
samba seemed to be able to handle printing acceptably in recent
versions.
Once we rolled it out, we started getting reports of many users
receiving the error :A policy is in effect on your computer which
prevents you from connecting to this print queue. Please contact your
system administrator." on a select few

AD Replication issues due to lingering objects
Do you tnink I can simply apt-get install from that repo to upgrade the
current samba?
Going down the demote/re-join route, I'm encountering problems demoting the
DC:

Asking partner server DC1.mydomain.local to synchronize from us
Error while demoting, re-enabling inbound replication

we are running a central server (CentOS 6.5, dovecot-2.0.9-7.el6 with a

As a followup to this, I discovered that I was using the MacPorts
version of the svn client on our Mac OS X system. Using the svn client
in /usr/bin/svn seems to recognize the certificate just fine.

Tcl/Tk window lingering too long
I want to set up a simple Tk dialog interface to a function in R,
such that when the "OK" button is pressed, the dialog window is
destroyed and then R does its work on the data/parameters/whatever
that were entered in the dialog. The function "test" below is a
simple prototype.
My problem: upon running test() and hitting "OK", R does its work

sftp/scp performance testing
Folks, I've noticed poor performance using sftp. If anyone has any
advice on how to improve performance, I'd like to hear it. Test simply
involved transferring a single 143MB MP3 file using defaults for all the
program configs. The opensshd 3.0.2p1 server is used in all tests.
Software:
