Hello R users, I am a newby using R 2.5.0 on a Apple Power Book G4 with Mac OS X 10.4.10. when I use the write.table function, I always get the output in Unix linebreaks that I have to change to McIntosh linebreaks to be able to Import the data in Excel 2004 for Mac. I'm using the xtable function with Sweave and Lyx and I would like to know how to get automatic line breaks for long strings in a column of the table. I've learned from the Lyx wiki that the Latex command \linebreak produces table cells with multiple lines. I tried to insert \linebreak into the character string, but it didn't work out, because Sweave transforms it automatically to $\backslash$linebreak. Any help is highly appreciated. Erich

I have an issue with line break handling. When I display contents of a textarea, I use nl2br to show linebreaks that the user has made. The problem comes the second time they make an edit, since the <br> code still appears in the inPlaceEdit box... which will no doubt confuse my users... As i understand the documentation, metadata is sent as normal clear text within the PCM-data when using stdin. I tried the following format: \n artist=foo\n title=bar\n (\n is, of course, a normal unix-linebreak) In this case, the metadata isn't updated. When i write exactly this to a file wich is called as metadata by ices2, it works. However, i don't like to use the file but would like to use stdin. ;) Any ideas? Again this fails, while "\\\\ \%" works. In neither case 1 or 2 the standard TeX trick to produce a linebreak in the source without producing a space on output helps, i.e. \\% \} resp. \\\\% \% both produce valid code [the resp. first % is read as a comment sign] but also insert a non-intended space in the output. Why is there no carriage return after the \hline in the resulting tex file? if I call hline() hline() in the chunk, then I get \hline \hline in the tex code without a linebreak in between.
