Undeleting files in ext3 (Newbie-question)
...ings could be done to find deleted inodes? I've tried to use debugfs , but I suspect this only helps if I'm using ext2. Or does they support ext3 too? I know.. backup is everything, but the reason I'd like to do this is that I know that last saturday at 9:35 am, the logs were most likley altered to cover up after a system break-in. The original logs could have been copied before this and therefor finding out deleted inodes could be of a great importance. A backup was obviously not done by these files during this event.. (shame on them!) Thanks, // Stefan!

Samba-LDAP - Getting Computer accounts to live in ou=Computers
OK, here is the deal. My system spins like a top with one exception. I would like to store Computer accounts in ou=Computers and get them out of ou=People. I've tried simply makeing this the ou that Computers are added to but then the XP clients cannot seem to see them. Changeing this is likley to be easy to do and incredibly hard to find the specific details of how to do it. I know where I want to put things but I don't know how to tell Samba (or perhaps the client XP box?) where they are. Thanks, Jim C.

Boot Log Problems
Hi, I have just updated from CentOS 4 to 5 and I am seeing a problem with udev during booting, but I am unable to track it down as it looks like the boot.log is not working. The file is there but empty and the previous log only lists events up to the point at which I upgraded. syslog.conf looks ok to me in so much as there is an entry pointing to /var/log/boot.log. Any suggestions as to what I

ltm package error for grm (IRT)
Using the grm function (graded response IRT model) in the ltm package I receive the following error: Error: subscript out of bounds for several scales I'd like to examine. Here's a small example that if run a few times will likley produce the error at least once ch<-array(round(runif(50,1,5)),c(10,5)) grm(ch,start.val="random") ## or grm(ch,constrained=F,IRT.param=T,start.val="random") I have cannot figure out where I have gone wrong and was unable to find mention of similar errors in the archives....

"Compression failed" message
...rth replacing the "Please contact developers" with a link to a web page with an explanation. > in the following cases: > a) recompressing from FLAC 1.2.1 (sometimes) Yes, if the file was encoded with say -8 in 1.2.1 and you are re-encoding to something less then the output file is likley to be bigger. > b) encoding very short wav files (around 5k samples) In this case, flac simply isn't given enough data to find redundancy required to actually make the file smaler. > c) encoding white noise test signal. In this case, flac splits the file into blocks, tries to encode e...

Samba - Windows 2000 Client Speed
I've been running Samba v 2.07 for over a year on a small sub network with excellent results. Win NT 4.0, Win 98, and Win 95 machines all connected properly, and transfer speeds and reaction time is quite good. One of the Win NT machines was just upgraded to run Windows 2000. The connectivity still works, but I noticed a severe degredation in transfer speeds to and from the Windows 2000

CentOS 5 Boot Issues
Hi all, I am still having problems with my desktop system. Having updated it from 4 to 5, I now have problems with the logs. Neither boot.log nor dmesg has any data post the update. syslog appears to be normal in that it starts when it should but does not show any errors. It looks like whatever is supposed to write to the logs during initial boot is not doing so, but I am not sure where to look

zpool split problem?
Zpool split is a wonderful feature and it seems to work well, and the choice of which disk got which name was perfect! But there seems to be an odd anomaly (at least with b132) . Started with c0t1d0s0 running b132 (root pool is called rpool) Attached c0t0d0s0 and waited for it to resilver Rebooted from c0t0d0s0 zpool split rpool spool Rebooted from c0t0d0s0, both rpool and spool were mounted

aftreg vs survreg loglogistic aft model (different intercept term)
Hi, I'm estimating a loglogistic aft (accelerated failure time) model, just a simple plain vanilla one (without time dependent covariates), I'm comparing the results that I obtain between aftreg (eha package) and survreg(surv package). If I don't use any covariate the results are identical , if I add covariates all the coefficients are the same until a precision of 10^4 or 10^-5 except

[Bug 15131] New: After a short period there is a lockup (fifo)
...s cycle could only be broken by Ctrl+Alt+Del or a hard reset. The first time I noticed that, was with Randr12 enabled, but after I deactivated it and started again without Randr12 it lockedup also. Using ''validates_inclusion_of'' to validate foreign key
I seem to be missing something trying to use ''validates_inclusion_of'' to validate a foreign key and was hoping some one could piont out my mistake? The problem seems to be that Order.find_all.collect is not returning an array that contains the order_id, if I replace it with a hardcoded array everything works as expected. The model: class OrderItem < ActiveRecord::Base

Comments in vorbisfile_example
I have a couple of questions with respect to "vorbisfile_example.c" in the ov sdk. 1) Near the end, there is a comment that says "we don't bother dealing with sample rate changes, etc, but you'll have to." I assume the author is regarding to different sample rates as a whole, not dynamic sample rates. Am I correct in that assumption? 2) That etc

suddenly change: idmap uid + gid
...move the line, this should stop it happening again > > If you have only one domain, then you shouldn't be using autorid, > you > should be using rid instead, unfortunately it is probably too late > now. We do need to work out why the RID base here isn't stable. The most likley reason is that the TDB it is stored in is being deleted for some reason, or less likly that is is somehow corrupt. The file is autorid.tdb in "state dir". Why shouldn't autorid be available on one domain? > As to how you fix your permissions, I fear this will have to be done &g...

kerberos + gssapi password change
Hello I am not a developer, but since this is a more advanced issue I rather post to this list than to the users list, I hope this is OK. We are currently running openssh with simon's gssapi patch and want to move towards the new integrated solution with openssh-3.7.1p2. A problem we experienced in both versions of openssh is that we are not able to change the kerberos password, when it

New Samba stable release - 1.9.17p5
...amba. The security hole allows a remote user to obtain root access on the Samba server. A program which exploits this bug has been posted to the internet. The security hole is only known to affect Samba servers running on Intel based hardware, and has only been demonstrated for Intel Linux. It is likley that exploits for other architectures would be very difficult but the possibility cannot be excluded completely. This patch fixes the security hole for all platforms. This patch also adds a routine which will log a message when a user attempts to take advantage of the security hole. A number of...
