Library_modules (list of & wiki write permissions)
Hello, I poked a little bit to extract the list of modules dependencies in Syslinux v6 (see below). I have attached a bash script that generate a nice table from the tarball. The output can either be an ASCII table, or wiki markup, typically for the page Library_modules[1]. I am not in the wiki Editor group, so I can't put that in the wiki. anyway, here's an updated dependency tree for 6.02: |chain.c32 |com32/chain | libutil.c32 libcom32.c32 |complex.c32 |com32/cmenu | libmenu.c32 libcom32.c32 |display.c32 |c...

Error loading vesamenu.c32
...uxiliary tools, are frequently a source of inconveniences. User "error" is probably more frequent than we might think. Of course Syslinux itself has its own issues/bugs. 4_ Since version 5.0, Syslinux needs a core module and c32 Library modules: http://www.syslinux.org/wiki/index.php/Library_modules 5_ The c32 Library modules shall also match the same version of the bootloader. 6_ After resolving any Syslinux-related matters, each Linux distro might have its own kernel parameters related to expected file locations (kernel, initrd, sqfs...). This is usually an issue in "multiboot&q...

Making isolinux boot menu: problems
Thanks Didier, Stephanie used Anarchy Linux to make our menu work. Regarding the missing instructions at https://wiki.syslinux.org/wiki/index.php?title=Menu After comparing the (now working) menu with our old non-working menu made using the instructions from the syslinux wiki page, she found that it had many more .c32 files copied from /usr/share/syslinux and there were a few critical ones to

hints about modules needed when migrating to newer releases
...y debian provided /usr/share/doc/pxelinux/README.txt (which I think is a copy of doc/pxelinux.txt) and didn't find any hints. I also looked at http://www.syslinux.org/wiki/index.php/PXELINUX and didn't find anything. Someone in IRC pointed me at http://www.syslinux.org/wiki/index.php/Library_modules and then it made more sense and I was able to use trial and error to figure out which modules I needed to get my particular config working. Maybe you could add short sections to each of the bootloader's doc/*.txt file and on the wiki saying something like, "Starting in syslinux 5.00,...

The source code is still in the same place; the binaries are generated into respective subdirectories. I would suggest reading: http://www.syslinux.org/wiki/index.php/Library_modules http://www.syslinux.org/wiki/index.php/Common_Problems#Multi-Arch and in the same "Common Problems" page you also have some notes about ELF and Modules. > > Still don't know where to get or create the efiboot.img. Thank you for pointing the direction. Indeed, ver. 6.03 works correctly. BTW, this project gets very complicated. I spent a lot of time guessing which files I would need. I hoped that reading Makefile would help me but I it did not. Maybe you could add a target for copying final results to a destination. (Target 'installer' do sth else ... /slackware 14.1/) Best regards P.O.

syslinux.exe no longer in win32 diectory
I had a recent issue with my system and needed to use a windows machine to create a bootable USB thumb drive. I wanted to use syslinux to write a boot loader to my usb drive but realized since v 5.10 syslinux no longer has syslinux.exe in the win32 directory. Is this a mistake or was this intentional? Where can I get version 6.x of syslinux.exe executable? Is it now required I build it myself?

installing only pxelinux?
...h the Syslinux wiki for "Library > modules". I'm not saying it will solve every single problem you might > have with version 6.02, but it will give you a generic answer to your > question. Thanks Ady; I had previously found this: http://www.syslinux.org/wiki/index.php/Library_modules which was indeed helpful in sorting out module dependencies. But more generally: is copying files from the syslinux distribution into your /tftpboot/ dir still the best recommended way to "install pxelinux"? > Regarding /tftpboot/ and mixing BIOS and EFI files, this ML has some...

Can almost boot on UEFI win8.1 laptop
...ding over to the 32-bit kernel > ok, I think. But you are using Syslinux UEFI x86_64. Is the hardware UEFI x86_64 or IA32? Some architecture / firmware / bootloader combinations are possible, and some not (yet). The Syslinux Library modules wiki page http://www.syslinux.org/wiki/index.php/Library_modules won't answer each and every question, but it might slightly help. I am also assuming that you are using official upstream binaries, version 6.03 final, downloaded from kernel.org. Other Syslinux binaries (from distros' packages, or re-built) are, generally speaking, not recommended f...

installing only pxelinux?
I've been using pxelinux since version 3 (way back when Fedora was new and RedHat was still free :-) ) but looking at the more modern releases I have a sinking feeling I've "just been doing it wrong" all these years. E.g. back then I'd download the syslinux tarball, copy pxelinux.0, menu.c32, and maybe memdisk to /tftpboot/ and that was pretty much it. I don't recall

...in an explanatory error message anyway. There is no limit to error / warning / information messages (which do exist to some degree, and could be seen more clearly when using the CLI and with no TIMEOUTs). FWIW, "ldd" can be your friend :). See: http://www.syslinux.org/wiki/index.php/Library_modules Or, simply, copy over all the c32 files from the relevant architecture the same build. Sometimes symlinks have been reported also as a problem. Whether this is a "user-related" problem or a really technical (file system related) one, I don't know. Therefore, I suggest _copying...
