Re: libguestfs-tools failure that I can't figure out
I'm not sure of the history of the server's libpcap install. Too many
chefs and only one pot. I know, that doesn't help. Your question did
prompt me to check versions and discover that there's a 1.9.0 version in
the BaseOS repo. I removed the previous package and loaded the new one.

tcpdump:libpcap:compilation problem
...*did not*
mention that!
Please, accept my appologies ...
But also you can read from the INSTALL of tcpdump,
that *if* you want you can leave it under the structure
of tcpdump source tree, especially if you have any
problems.
On my system it wouldn't want to compile *without*
first building libpcap. After building libpcap, the libpcap
software tries to install a file called bpf.h under
/usr/local/include/net, but this on my system failed as there
were not a directory named /usr/local/include/net.
So, I simply created /usr/local/include/net to and
the bpf.h file in there. I *do not know* if t...

Slightly OT - Oreka Call Recording
Greetings all-
I'd like to install Oreka on a Centos 5.x server for monitoring my Asterisk systems(using port mirroring) but I find I'm having problems with the version of libpcap installed. The latest is 0.9.4 but the orkaudio RPM (built for Centos 4.2) requires libpcap 0.8.3. I've tried making symlinks to overcome the issue but with no success. Without having to build Oreka from source, is there a away around this libpcap issue? Maybe there are RPMs built for Centos 5...

This is the problem.
I'm absolutely certain I've seen this bug before but I cannot find it
right now. Can you try to see which version of libpcap systemd is
linked to? eg:
$ ldd /usr/lib/systemd/systemd | grep libpcap

Libpcap srpm?
I am looking for this and all I can find (checked some mirrors too) is
the rpm.
Where is the source rpm so I can rebuild from it?
Thanks,

Naming packages in custom yum repo.
...installed under this new prefix to prevent any conflict
with the CentOS package. My main issue is I would like yum (and rpm)
to be happy with this coexistence.
Is the only way to do this by giving my packages a different name
rather than just twiddling the release number?
For example, CentOS has libpcap-0.8.3, I need to supply a patched
libpcap-0.8.4 but I don''t want it to replace the 0.8.3 package, so
I''ve modified the package name to be like <something>.libpcap-0.8.3...
I know this may same weird, but is prefixing the package name a sane
approach to this?

Screening packets within tc-classes
...a got from the dequeuing counters via tc
-s class show dev ${IF}. Not the best way - I know - but it was enough till
yet.
Now the question is - is it possible to get direct access to network packets
that flow through a specifc tc-class?
I was thinking about iptables and dumping the MARK-value via libpcap. But I
don''t think that this will work because the pcap-filter is attached to the
device itself before the iptables rules (like the restore-mark) are acting. So
I guess libpcap will not see this.
I was also thinking about forwarding the traffic of each chain to a dummy
device. But with a...

[nbdkit PATCH 0/5] ci: Get to green status on FreeBSD and MacOS
I took the easy route of crippling what I couldn't get working, on the
grounds that partial coverage is better than none now that we have
Cirrus CI checking commits on additional platforms.
This series got me to a green checkmark:
https://gitlab.com/ebblake/nbdkit/-/pipelines/793156983
but depends on an as-yet uncommitted patch in libvirt-ci:

Packet capturing
Hello Everybody!
I am an Engineering student and doing a project on WAN Emulator. Can anyone
please tell me the way to capture a packet on Network Layer. I want to
capture original packet and not the copy(i think libpcap provides a copy of
the original packet). Let suppose we get a copy on Netwok layer then how we
can destroy the original packet....
Plz suggest me....Thanks in advance

Bandwidth Metering
Hi,
How do you meter the amount of bandwidth a user has consumed (as
webhosting companies do) under linux? I have searched everywhere, but
have been unable to find a solution. Apologies if this is the wrong
forum.
Thanks,
Patrick

Netfilter, libpcap, ntop and promiscuous mode?
I have a really basic question (I think). We have two boxes connected
to a lan segment on a hub. One is a Windows box running "Show Traffic",
the other is a CentOS 5 Linux box running "ntop". Both boxes should be
able to sniff all of the traffic on that hub (not a switch).
The Windows box does just fine, Show Traffic is able to display traffic
destined for other boxes
