Centos 5.3, Firefox, and JRE
I can't get java applets to run in Firefox. We are using centos 5.3, firefox 3.0.11. Java version 1.6.0_24 is installed. java version "1.6.0_24" Java(TM) SE Runtime Environment (build 1.6.0_24-b07) Java HotSpot(TM) 64-Bit Server VM (build 19.1-b02, mixed mode) I know there has been allot written about this issue. I did look and there is no jre plug in installed for Firefox. I

java annoyances
Fresh install on a brand new box (Dell Precision 3500) of 5.6. I install Sun java-1.6.0_26-b03, Java HotSpot(TM) 64-Bit Server VM (build 20.1-b02, mixed mode) Then ln -s /usr/lib/jvm/java-1.6.0-sun-1.6.0.26.x86_64/jre/lib/amd64/libnpjp2.so /usr/lib64/mozilla/plugins about:plugins shows java enabled (oddly enough, I seem to have flash, 32-bit, in the 32 bit libs, and that doesn't show; guess I need to install nspluginwrapper). I go to the java tester, as recommended on the CentOS wiki, <http://javatester.org/version.html&gt...

Java RE
Hello. Package Manager reports (with a green checkmark) that I have java-1.6.0 installed on my machine (running Cent 5.3), but it seems to not be running. I used http://java.com/en/download/help/testvm.xml and got "Something is wrong. Java is not working." Perhaps I'm confused on which program I need to use java-coded apps. PM lists this app as "OpenJDK Runtime

My old version of FF does not have plugin folder, it has a file called pluginreg.dat that looks like this: IcedTeaPlugin.so:$ /usr/lib64/IcedTeaPlugin.so:$ :$ 1462942245000:0:0:$ The <a href="">IcedTea-Web Plugin</a> executes Java applets.:$ IcedTea-Web Plugin (using Ic...

CentOS, Firefox, and Java Plugin
The latest updates to CentOS 5.5 seem to have broken the Java plugin, and have defeated any and all attempts to get it working again. I'm running CentOS 5.5 (32-bit) and Firefox 3.6.9 (installed from the CentOS repository); I've tried BOTH the openJDK plugin available through the Argeo repositories, and installing Java 1.6.0 directly from Sun/Oracle and creating the plugin soft link in

.... in this case you can either > use ~/.mozilla/plugins (for all profiles) or [Profile directory]/plugins > for a specific profile. In /usr/lib64/mozilla/plugins there is a symlink from libjavaplugin.so to /usr/lib64/IcedTeaPlugin.so I changed that to point to /usr/java/jre1.8.0_144/lib/amd64/libnpjp2.so but I got the exact same results. I also tried renaming the pluginreg.dat file. No joy.

Confused about Java browser plugin for Firefox
Hi, I'd like to install a working Java Plugin for Firefox, and I wonder how to go about it. There's some documentation available online, but one quickly gets the feeling it's quite a mess. I also admit being a contributor to the mess, since the Linux book I published in June 2009 gives a detailed - and now obsolete - description about installing JRE :

JNLP app problems
Hey folks, I'm trying to use a 5.3 box to run some JNLP apps, but all I get is a view of XML. I try doing some googling and don't come up with much other than this one thread that says I may need both 32 and 64 bit Java to run JNLP. But it is not clear to me how to do that. thanks, -Alan -- ?Don't eat anything you've ever seen advertised on TV? ? ? ? ?? - Michael Pollan,

CentOS 5.4 64-bit: Java web browser plugin for 64-bit FireFox?
Does there exist *anywhere* a Java web browser plugin for 64-bit FireFox? The SUN 1.6<mumble> JDK (jdk-6u18-linux-amd64.rpm) does NOT include the Java web browser plugin library. java-1.6.0-openjdk-1.6.0.0-1.2.b09.el5.x86_64.rpm does not have one either. Should I install the *32-bit* SUN 1.6<mumble> JDK and use the 32-64 bit wrapper? I've searched the web and read the wiki
