Howto: Java Plugin for Firefox 3.0.1?
...g this issue cryptically mentions that plugin support
has been dropped. It then points one to a early adopter SUN jre1.6-10 page
that has innumerable dependencies which my version of CentOS-5.2 does not
meet.
Firefox 3.0.0 had a plugins directory and it did support the logical link
plugin:
ls -s libjavaplugin_oji.so
/usr/java/default/plugin/i386/ns7/libjavaplugin_oji.so
I have no clue how to get java to work in FF3.0.1 at the moment. Any help
would be appreciated.

help.start( )
...ing from R-1.7.1.tgz without a problem. Then I fired up R and tried things and found that help.start( ) does not work. I downloaded Sun Java j2re1.4.2, installed that and re-installed R-1.7.1 from scratch. I tried help.start( ) again and the browser (Mozilla 1.2.1) crashed.
I read about copying libjavaplugin_oji.so into mozilla/plugins and installed R-1.7.1 (again from scratch). Mozilla still crashed. Can you tell me how to make help.start( ) work in R-1.7.1?
Thank you

R-2.1.0 search engine works with mozilla browser but not firefox
I'm running R-2.1.0 on a Linux box and found that the HTML search engine

Firefox and Java on CentOS 4.1
I need to run a Java-enabled Firefox on my CentOS4.1-powered laptop and it
*was* running fine. Then yesterday I up2date'd the box and Firefox went
from 1.0.4 to 1.0.6. And I lost Java.
I can't seem to re-install it, whether from the original (1.5.0 I think it
was) or the latest downloads.
This is crucially important as I need to access my Dell RAC.
Can anyone advise how to get

Safe to use gstreamer repository for RH or Fedora?
I'd like to install "Gstreamer" so that I can get MP3 support in
Rhythmbox. At least, I'm led to believe MP3 support comes with
installing Gstreamer from Rhythmbox's FAQ.
But when I get to the Gstreamer download page:
http://gstreamer.freedesktop.org/download/
... it says:
"Do not compile from source yourself unless you are certain you have to
or want to"

Possible solution for Mozilla/help.start() search problems
...start() search engine
working in the 2002-11-22 Mozilla 1.3a build. The note would suggest
that the browser may have problems locating the required Java modules to
load and start the applet.
The fix seems to be to create (as root) a symlink to the file:
/usr/java/JAVA_VERSION/plugin/i386/ns610/libjavaplugin_oji.so
in your active Mozilla plugins directory.
In the process of doing this, I noted that there were multiple Moz*
directories in /usr/lib, given the updating that I have done since
installing RH 8.0. There was no symlink in usr/lib/Mozilla-1.3a/plugins.
Upon adding the symlink, lo and behold th...

Need Java plugin for Firefox in CentOS 5.3
....i386.rpm
java-1.4.2-gcj-compat-1.4.2.0-40jpp.115.i386.rpm
java-1.6.0-openjdk-1.6.0.0-1.2.b09.el5.i386.rpm
Any ideas what I'm missing? The Java plugin is not something I use
often, but when I need it, I need it. Do I need to dump openjdk and
get Java directly from Sun? It looks like libjavaplugin_oji.so went
away when Sun Java got replaced by the openjdk version.

Confused about Java browser plugin for Firefox
Hi,
I'd like to install a working Java Plugin for Firefox, and I wonder how to go
about it. There's some documentation available online, but one quickly gets
the feeling it's quite a mess. I also admit being a contributor to the mess,
since the Linux book I published in June 2009 gives a detailed - and now
obsolete - description about installing JRE :

...uctions carefully.
The key will be to remove the existing Java shortcut in your Mozilla
plugins folder, which for me using Moz 1.3 is:
/usr/lib/mozilla-1.3/plugins
Depending upon what version of Java you presently have installed, the
existing shortcut may be to .../javaplugin_oji.so or to
.../libjavaplugin_oji.so.
Once you have installed the Blackdown.org version of Java as per the
installation instructions, you will need to recreate the shortcut to the
new Java plugin, which for me is:
/usr/java/j2re1.4.1/plugin/i386/mozilla/javaplugin_oji.so
Hence, in the /usr/lib/mozilla-1.3/plugins folder using...

Currently no Java for Linux-Mozilla on 4-Stable?
Hey folks,
I was trying to install a jvm for the linux-mozilla port on 4-stable.
4-stable of yesterday (updated) and all ports of yesterday except as
indicated.
I am through all of them, blackdown-1.3, blackdown-1.4.2, checked out
the previous blackdown-1.4.1, Sun-1.3.1 and Sun-1.4.2.
Most of them have incompatible C++ interfaces to the current
linux-mozilla, except blackdown-1.4.2, which

Can't get JRE to install so that FireFox sees it
Hot on the heels of the success of getting sound to work with FireFox, I
am on to getting Java applets to run.
When I go to a page with a Java applet, I get the little Rubik's cube-
like icon that says I can click to download. So I do, but FireFox says
it can't find it, so I have to install manually.
I click on Manual install and I'm taken to a page that allows me to
download the RPM

R search engine broken (PR#6653)
Full_Name: St?phane Gourichon
Version: R 1.7.1 (2003-06-16).
OS: GNU/Linux
Submission from: (NULL) (132.227.205.226)
The HTML help is great. But the search engine is broken.
It used to work in Galeon 1.x, not Konqueror 3.0 .
Now it doesn't work, neither on Mozilla 1.6 / Firebird 0.6 / Firefox 0.8 nor
Konqueror 3.2 which are IMHO the latest versions of those advanced,
standard-compliant
