I am running CentOS 5/2 (latest updates) with the GNOME DE on a 32-bit machine (at work). I have k3b installed, and I was trying to copy a DVD earlier this morning, but k3b said it couldn't read encrypted DVDs. So, I installed libdvdcss from rpmforge and restarted k3b. It hung the system. I rebooted, and / had been damaged. After running e2fsck from the repair prompt, I rebooted and a whole slew of errors revolving around various /var directories that did not ecist occurred. I found it - there has to be a /var/lib/nfs directory with a few subdirectories under it. Once I had created them all, I could run rpc.statd, and that unfroze everything. Thanks to all, esp. Bill for mentioning rpc - that was the clue for me. mhr

Hi all! I'm trying to finish setting up my newly upgraded C7 system. It's on the same hardware I ran C6 on for several years. on C6 I had no trouble playing DVDs (after installing tons of packages and libdvdcss). Well, on C7, I've got totem (videos) and all its plugins I can find via yum, VLC (from nux) all the gstreamer and gstreamer1 packages I can find, everything with "dvd" in its name, including libdvdcss from nux. vlc will kinda play movies, i.e., moving garbage appears on the screen...

Just tried to play a movie/DVD and Totem (what automatically popped up when I inserted the DVD) said it needed plug-ins... it didn't say which plug-ins. The website listed in the help page no longer exists. I have four of the gstreamer packages and libdvdcss installed, but I guess there's something more needed. Greetings: I'd like to bring up a CentOS-3.3 system to use for multi-media purposes. One of the packages I'm installing is dvdrip and all it's dependant packages (libdv, libdvdcss, libdvdread, avifile, & transcode). Hello, I am trying to get MP4/H.264 playback in Firefox to work on my CentOS laptop (for vimeo). I installed the gstreamer plugins as described here: https://wiki.centos.org/TipsAndTricks/MultimediaOnCentOS7 (No, I did not install Flash, VLC and all the other stuff.
