LVM2 snapshots and XEN = problem :(
Hello guys Does anyone use lvm2 backends for domU storages ? I do and I wanted to use lvm''s snapshot feature to make backups of domUs in background but I got the following problem. When I create a snapshot LV and copy data from it to backup storage it works perfect. Then I do umount and then lvremove. lvremove asks me if I really want to remove the volume and then just hangs forever.

Building libvirt 1.2.13 from source
Hello I am trying to build libvirt 1.2.13 (latest) from source on a Ubuntu 14.04 64 bit box. After installing all the dependencies (libyajl, libdevmapper, libpciaccess, libnl), I could finish the build and install. Strange issue with device-mapper lib in CentOS
...gain, device-mapper RPM was broken. Well, let's reinstall it again, sync, remount root readonly, check with rpm -V device-mapper. Done that - all seems to be ok, no output from the rpm -V = files are intact. Rebooted again. Run: [root at omega MegaMgr5.20]# rpm -V device-mapper ..5..... /lib/libdevmapper.so.1.02 That's it. After each and every reboot I've got this file corrupted. Looks like it's not a faulty HDD trouble, and it's not a faulty RAID controller. Most likely something corrupts this file during shutdown process or during boot process. Haven't got enough time today...

Re: [PATCH 0/1] WIP: Support LUKS-encrypted partitions
...ded > unconditionally, My concerns about making --allow-discards unconditional would be: * If old versions of cryptsetup supported it at all. The option was added in cryptsetup 1.4 in Oct 2011, so that's not an issue. * If it breaks cryptsetup in any situation. >From a casual look at libdevmapper it seems like some devices don't support discards. libdevmapper issues a log message and actually retries in certain situations, but I'm not sure if that applies to luksOpen. * If people opening luks partitions would want to disallow discards. [PATCH libldm 00/12] New API: an ability to retrieve created device-mapper devices back after they have been created.
The main goal of these patch series is to implement a new API that allows to retrieve created device-mapper devices for volumes and partitions back after they have been created. As part of this patch: - required libdevmapper version was bumped to 1.02. I think it is safe because it was released more then 10 years ago; - newer version of libdevmapper allowed to simplify code base a little bit; - libdevmapper (and a good practice) suggest using UUID for device-mapper devices. It is get implemented as well. Presence of...

Re: error in virt-resize
I had some more ideas overnight: (1) Check that libparted0 is installed on the *host*. (2) Try to find out what libraries the parted binary requires on the host and appliance. On the host: ldd /usr/bin/parted On the appliance: virt-rescue --scratch ><rescue> ldd /usr/bin/parted (3) Remove the appliance and recreate it: rm -rf /var/tmp/.guestfs-* libguestfs-test-tool (4)
