OK- A dumb question. Will a "generic"(kernel.org) kernel work with Centos 4? My reason for asking- I'm needing to upgrade from RH9, and would rather go ahead and go with 4 for the 2.6 kernel, but I need a patched kernel (Win4Lin), and I'm not sure they will offer a prepatched version (though they probably will for EL4). I seem to recall that Windows NT/95/98 allow long (>32) names to be visible as share names. However, samba seems to limit my share names to 13 characters in version 2.2.1a. If I create a share with a name longer than that, it cannot be accessed. Am I missing something? Thanks for your help. Linus

Does anyone have experience with getting an Act! database working without corruption on a Samba server? I had five users in an Act! database where I was getting pretty regular corruption, even after adding "oplocks = no" to the share. We have since moved the database onto a Win 2000 machine, but we would rather have it back on the Samba server if we can solve the corruption problem. Any
