FXS cards generate ring (you connect a "station" to it and it rings).
FXO cards sink ring (they take ring from the office).
If the Octel needs ring (which it most likely does), you would need an
FXS card to generate ring for it to answer. An FXO would take ri...

QSIG support in Asterisk
I am looking to get the info about QSIG support in Asterisk.
Does Asterisk have QSIG support?
Does Asterisk support QSIG SIP Tunneling or QSIG SIP Interworking?
If so, How to configure that?
Thanks

asterisk server as a voicemail server for legacy PBX -- FXO or FXS???
Hey All,
I'll be configuring an asterisk box to be the voicemail server to an old
Merlin system which had an octel 100 voicemail server that is now dying.
My question is simple: do I need to stick an FXO card in the asterisk
box? My logic is that if the Merlin Magix system is actually generating
electrical current, then I would need to have an fxo card. Is this
correct?

switchtype QSIG and Asterisk implementation
...up with some posts saying that Asterisk may not fully implement QSIG (eg.: http://threebit.net/mail-archive/asterisk-users/msg14000.html).
Are the latest Asterisk versions (both 1.2 and 1.4, not to mention 1.6) QSIG-compliant or are there known issues?
Is anyone here "happily" running a LegacyPBX---QSIG_PRI---ASTERISK system?
I've read this page and it seems that the author did not succeed in setting up QSIG between Alcatel 4400 and Asterisk:

Thanks,

Cisco Gateway sending call to * without CID Name
Hi All,
I have a Cisco 2600 PRI gateway being hosted on an Asterisk server.
The PRI on the cisco is pointing to a customer legacy PBX, the SIP
VoIP side of the cisco is pointing to an Asterisk server (1.2.X).
In Asterisk, the SIP peer is setup with callerid="some name"<5551212>
In a SIP call from the cisco to asterisk, there is no CID name info in
SIP debug, so Asterisk
