iSCSI offload with Broadcom NetXtreme II BCM5709.
Hello all.
We recently purchased HP Proliant DL380 G7 server and also a HP Lefthand
P4500 G2 24TB iSCSI box.
The server itself has Quad Ethernet based on the BCM5709 Chipset from
Broadcom (NetXtreme II).
My main question is about iSCSI offload mechanism, as iSCSI itself is
pretty new to me
but I have gotten a good hold on it tho.
I have managed to setup and configured our Le...

Left/right hand side characters
...ust
the left n numbers of characters is given?
For example, If I have a list, listnames, which consists of 4 strings of
6 characters;
>listnames
[1] "item12" "item34" "item56" "item78"
Is there a way to reduce this so only the 5 characters on the lefthand
side are given (similar to the LEFT function in Excel)
So that I'd get a list like this
>listnames
[1] "item1" "item3" "item5" "item7"
Thanks

I have no idea if you created it or not, I wasn't there at the time ;-)
What the user.map does, it takes the user on the righthand side,
'Administrator' and maps it the user on the lefthand side, 'root'
What this means in practise is that whenever Administrator connects to
Samba, it becomes root, with the privileges that root has.
So never use Administrator on Unix, use root, but from Windows you can
safely use Administrator.

dotchart questions
I am trying to put 3 dotcharts side-by-side with minimal space between
each. Each chart is for a different variable, but the vertical axes are
the same.
I want to have vertical axis labels on the lefthand chart but no
vertical axis labels on the other two. Plus, I would like very little
space between charts 1 & 2 and between charts 2 & 3.
I have one approach but am not too happy with the results. A stripped
down version of the code is below. Matrix A has the row labels (which
are about 20...

iscsi storage, LACP or Multipathing | Migration or rebuild?
Hi,
I do have one iscsi storage with 4 GBit nics of which currently only one
is configured with an ip and which is in productive use by one cent os
6.3 server.
Doing some research brought me to the idea to use some nic bonding or
multipathing for that storage, but multipathing I did about four or five
years ago only once :)

It was my fault, as you have seen. Y matrix must contain successes and failures, and not successes and trials.
Sorry for my ignorance and thanks a lot for your help.

LDA and POP3/IMAP user_query
...ing.
Think of the following:
abcwidgets at theirdomain.tld mailuser1
mailuser1 at adomain.tld mailuser2
Now when using the Postfix LDA, email for each address is properly delivered
to the specified mbox, however in this case because their is a matching name
for the mbox and the email address lefthand content, the compound SQL query
returns both results and the LDA will use the first one, which in this case
was the wrong one.
This is the query used:
user_query = \

learning the R language (for those strong in Ruby)
I feel like I'm not firing at all cylinders with the R language,
despite reading over the R Language Definition.
Has anyone seen something like an "R for Rubyists" guide (i.e.
teaching the R language for those who are more familar with Ruby)?
Alternately, a book with lots of examples about how the R language
itself works would be fantastic.

CentOS 4.2 iSCSI initiator
Hi.
Anyone using CentOS 4.2 iscsi-initiator-utils-4.0.3.0-2 in a production
setup? I'm planning to do so shortly, and would like to hear about any
experiences (good/bad) or recommendations.
The target is going to be a Dell AX100i.

redundant networked secure file system recommendation
Hi all,
We are currently running a NFS-based server centric setup. I would
like to set up something where I can easily have more than one
redundant server, security/authentication (this part seems a little
flaky with NFS, at least did several years ago), with the capability
to easily add/remove servers as necessary, take redundant servers down
for maintenance, etc. Total volume we expect to run

Family Lawyer 2001
Hello,
I am able to install Family Lawyer 2001 using wine, but when I
run the application, all I can see is the logo in the
top-lefthand corner of the window.
Has anyone had any luck with this software? I really don't want
to have to install windows. Even vmware is a pain for me.
Any suggestions will be appreciated
Thanks

Getting a new app added to the AppDB?
Hi,
Have looked at all the FAQ's, searched here on the Forums, etc., and can't seem to find out how you actually get in touch with any of the App Maintainers, (if you're not one yourself) to start getting a new app, (in this case, Fallout 3, which just came out yesterday and I'm trying to start to futz with, so really would appreciate a location where folks might be able to
