LMTP revisited
During the early Dovecot LDA brainstorming discussions, there was some
talk about the possibility of including an LMTP interface, and I've
noticed that there's an "is it needed?" question about LMTP in
Dovecot's TODO file.
I'd like to put in a vote for LMTP, and I'm wondering if anyone else has a
need for it. Specifically, I'd love an LMTP-enabled LDA that uses

some Maildir files not honoring dovecot-shared
...mp:
total 0
glenn at tony:~/Maildir/.abusetest-in$
I see in the RC16 release notes that there was a fix for the
dovecot-keywords file, but it doesn't mention these other files. Is this a
bug, or am I misunderstanding how the dovecot-shared file should work?
Thanks very much,
Glenn

messages lingering in .Trash/new instead of .Trash/cur
...oking at various
outputs of rawlog, TB seems to be simply issuing uid copy commands to
"Trash" like the ones above when a user deletes a message.
Do any of you know what IMAP interaction with Dovecot can lead to message
files appearing in .Trash/new/ ?
Thanks very much,

a few questions about my experience with alpha1
...t;Sending log messages too fast, throttling.." message (again, generated
from that single login command). What might be causing that?
By the way, is there any real difference between the use of %h/Mail and the
possible use of ~/Mail in the location fields above?
Thanks very much!

What is the highest quality codec I can use for recording voice messages?
I have looked at the codec's available but I don't know how get the highest
quality recorded message.
If a user calls in over the normal telephone network is this limited to the
carriers codec or the codec at the asterisk side?
Would I get a higher quality result using VoIP rather than the normal
network?
Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks
Fats.

RC15 problems with dovecot-shared and umask distilled
I recently posted about problems I've been having with dovecot-shared and
umask in RC15 (using Solaris 9). I've now been able to distill what I'm
experiencing into these two separate points:
1. dovecot-uidlist and message files never inherit the dovecot-shared group
2. With umask=0007 these files are created with mode 600 instead of 660:
dovecot-uidlist, dovecot.index,

...a default namespace that
will always be chosen no matter what prefix the client provides, as long as
there isn't an explicit match? I'd like to be able to have clients find
mailboxes in a particular location no matter what they provide as their
folder prefix.
Thanks very much,

Accumulating Physdev Counts
When using v2 we would modify the saved /var/lib/shorewall/restore file to
modify logging so we had separate counts by the physical device the
packets (actually, NEW connections, not total packet counts), such as:
-A LogStuff -j LOG etc
-A LogStuff -m physdev --physdev-in eth1 -j DROP
-A LogStuff -m physdev --physdev-in eth2 -j DROP
which gave us an idea where dropped traffic cam from

Dovecot on Solaris
For those running Dovecot on Solaris, what are your positive/negative
experiences with building the software with CC vs. GCC? We are currently
letting ./configure find our gcc and build with it, but wondered if anyone
has any experience with Sun CC (does it even compile, for example).

trouble compiling today's CVS in Solaris 9
I've recently been able to compile the CVS code in Solaris 9, but I'm now
getting a few errors.
First, I receive this error during the autogen process:

exist
configure.in:1717: required file `src/plugins/convert/Makefile.in' not found
I can workaround that by removing the reference to

stale locks
Hello Timo,
I'm running
dovecot-1.0.rc15 (imap and pop)
postfix-2.3.5,1
procmail-3.22_6 (which is my LDA)
on FreeBSD 6.1-STABLE
I'm still using the mbox format (I'm planning to migrate to Maildir
soon), mailboxes are on an NFS filesystem.
I regulary see stale dotlocks files (either from dovecot (29 bytes,
hold the pid of the process) or procmail (1 byte) and processes

rc15 errors
Hi,
Since I installed rc15 I'm seing the following errors in logs of a
server with several hundreds of pop3 and imap users. All the indexes
have been erased and recreated after installation.

The maildir mailboxes are on NFS, but the indexes are local. What should
be done to correct this error ?

Alpha4 pre-release, please upgrade
Please try if http://dovecot.org/nightly/dovecot-latest.tar.gz (or the
CVS directly) works with you. I made a lot of changes to dovecot-auth,
so I wouldn't want to make alpha4 release without some more testing in
different environments. I'll release alpha4 in a few days, but it'll be
basically same as this unless more bugs get fixed.
Some of the changes include:

problem with content-length and mbox parsing
The stars aligned recently such that I sent someone a message that
contained a line similar to this in the message body:
From glenn at usg.edu Thu Jun 20 16:48:11 2002
(Except that there wasn't that space character *before* the From; I've
added it here to avoid any problems with this message).
Dovecot wrote a copy of the message in my "sent mail" folder under the
