...be hidden against Windows due to directory handle leases, > which we don't yet support. Are you saying that when I replace the Samba server by a Windows SMB2 share server, I should see better performance? I can perfectly test that out and record a Wireshark trace for this if you like... Layperson question: Would such a "directory handle lease" be something like a cache for SMB2 Find responses? This would have to be a client-side cache in order to avoid sending back all 1000 file names in the directory from server to client over the network with every single response. Also, in...

Correlation of coefficients?
...of this concept either on the help pages of R or on the internet. A Google search has shown many examples of R/S-Plus outputs but no explanations of meaning. I am afraid this turns out to be a silly and unworthy question. Would anyone be kind enough to show relevant literature or a text book to a layperson studying on his/her own? Thanks in advance. -- Yukihiro Ishii <yukiasais at ybb.ne.jp>

[fdo] Linux with Graphics and Sound
...lications and 3D games can all flurish. The Linux kernal is often updated and patched for security reasons. The maintainence demands of reconfiguring, recompiling the kernel for sound, and then continually installing kernel modules for video are becoming too high for the average user. /[From a layperson's view, when the introduction of 2.6 broke kernel broke NTFS support, Nvidia 3D Gaphics as well the music and sound programs supported by Jack. It was a good day for Microsoft.]/ We need both graphics and sound. We need the same kernal to be flexible to do more than one thing at a time. If...

Network architecture
Hi all, I'm planning to build a VOIP solution for handling SIP calls coming from endpoints registered on a specific SIP proxy...I made some research regarding network architecture and found out that the best solution is to use OpenSips as SIP proxy for registration and local calls between registered endpoints and use asterisk server with a2billing for PSTN calls, rating, routing and all other
