Interpretation of Variance decomposition in VAR model
...eally R related, rather on Statistics subject itself. Even I did not do those using R. however still I want to post it here, because my hope is I could get help from great statisticians who are the very active member of this group. My problem is to interpret Variance decomposition of VAR model in layman's language. Using EViews I got following : Variance Decomposition of LN_FU: Period S.E. LN_SPOT LN_FU 1 0.024422 93.66959 6.330413 2 0.034838 94.36506 5.634938 3 0.042280 94.60712 5.392882 4 0.048540 94.30725 5.692747 5 0.054060 93.99039 6.009611 6 0.059042...

[LLVMdev] LLVM in Eclipse
Hi, I am new to Eclipse IDE. I am working with LLVM using command line for some time. Now I want to integrate it with eclipse IDE. Can anyone please give layman instructions how to import the llvm source project, install it and built it in the eclipse IDE. SIP/TCP?
I'm still learning some of the basics. Can someone explain in layman's terms what's the difficulty for Asterisk to support SIP/TCP (and even RTP/TCP)?

maybe I am an idiot...
...just got a mac and I want to run windows apps on it. I try to download it from this site, some of the options don't even have a download button on them, I downloaded one but I think it's for unix. It was a bunch of folders that my computer didn't know what to do with. Is there a simple layman's handbook to doing this? I tried all the links but I am getting no where.

how to know whether Vector B is a subset of Vector A
Hi, I'm quite fresh to R, and a layman of English as well. I hope I can make you understood. Now I have two vectors A and B. Is there any quick way to know whether B is a subset of A? and If B is a subset of A, can I know easily which elements in A (the index of A) equals to B's elements accordingly? For example, > a<-1:20...

Samba4 DNS - Adding CNAME

(flags=f0, serial=19, ttl=900) On the face of it, to a layman like myself, the entry is added successfully (as per samba-tools output - Record added successfully), however, am 'nslookup' returns; # nslookup debian Server: 192.168.1.254 Address: 192.168.1.254#53 Non-authoritative answer: *** Can't find debian: No answer So, the...

XFS vs EXT4 for mail storage
...e SIS for attachments. So, anyone (Stan?) have any suggestions? Should I go with EXT4? Or XFS with just the defaults? Or XFS with one or more tuned parameters? Appreciate any suggestions (including links to docs dealing with tuning XFS for my mail storage conditions that are written more at the layman level) or comments from anyone experienced using both... [RFC] Refinement of convergent semantics
...ge in convergent semantics that should resolve a lot of the identified problems regarding loop unrolling, loop unswitching, etc. Credit to John McCall for talking this over with me and seeding the core ideas. Today, convergent operations may only be moved into control-equivalent locations, or, in layman’s terms, a convergent operation may neither be sunk into nor hoisted out of, a condition. This causes problems for full loop unrolling, as the control dependence on the loop counter is eliminated, but our intuition indicates that this dependence was somehow trivial. More concretely, all know uses...

Zaptel Line Build Out
Can someone who is knowledgable in the traditional telco space please give me a layman's explanation (or point me to an appropriate url) of LBO as per the zaptel configuration file? # The line build-out (or LBO) is an integer, from the following table: # 0: 0 db (CSU) / 0-133 feet (DSX-1) # 1: 133-266 feet (DSX-1) # 2: 266-399 feet (DSX-1) # 3: 399-533 feet (DSX-1) # 4: 533-655...

8.2 ->8.3 regression on disk writes
Hello, using 8.2 the machine runs fine, using 8.3 or higher, not so much. In laymans terms, if I do "too many" writes/time just once, the machine can't do any disk access for a couple of hours. As in: What's already running stays running, no crashes or anything, but as soon as I need to read from disk (login, start program not cached in memory from previous...

rsync'ing large files
...ling with large files. Some of the mails seemed to indicate that this can be mitigated by using larger block sizes, though there were some caveats that increasing block size without increasing checksum size might cause more hash collisions. My questions: 1) Can anyone explain the problem to me in layman's terms. Is the initial bad transfer due to hash collisions? 2) If I'm transferring files that are 1-2GB, would increasing the block-size parameter to 8k or so help here? Or would I be creating more chances for hash collisions since I can't increase the checksum size? 3) I'm using...

TCP MSS clampage
...e util) is clamping the MSS. I am noticing some latency when there''s a lot of bandwidth in use (but not >90%). What should I clamp, eth0/ppp0? How much? And what with, rp-pppoe, or tc/iproute2/etc ? I guess I don''t really understand clamping MSS, can someone explain it in laymans terms? I have read the lartc-FAQ, and the only time I see clamping-MSS mentioned is section 15.7, which doesn''t really explain why you''d do it. Apologies if M$ makes this email look squonky in any way. Descriptive stats for factors in SEM
I feel really dumb for having to ask this, but here I go anyway... I perform structural equation modeling on a survey, using about 25 variables that create a total of 5 latent variables (factors). Applying sem (using the sem package) was a piece of cake, even for an (SEM) layman, thanks for THE excellent work here. I have all the variable/path coefficients, A- and P-matrix etc. But now I am stuck with a seemingly simple task. How do I compute the values of my latent variables, using the data I have? I need a table for my factors, showing mean, st.dev, and correlations, a...
