...stion. I am working with really large datasets and most of the programs I have been running take quite some time.
I heard that R may be faster in Unix. I sthis true and if so can anyone reccomend which system and requirements may allow things to go faster for?
Thanks!!

A Wine config file doesn't mean anything by itself, only in relation to
the *NIX system it describes for Wine to use.

The package provides an R interface to the Lawson-Hanson NNLS algorithm

Any ideas of how to get this to work? Or are there any way to indentify all the unique patterns in a huge matrix? ( 10000 x 71)
Thanks for any suggestions!!

partially linear models
Hey,
I am estiamting a partially linear model y=X\beta+f(\theta) where the f(\theta) is estiamted using wavelets.
Has anyone heard of methods to test if the betas are significant or to address model fit?
Thanks for any thoughts or comments.

Intermittent user authentication problem
...sers are running
into this problem. We have about 12 users on this system that access
Samba on a somewhat regular basis.
She accesses the Samba service by clicking on a shortcut we created for
her to map a drive to it. Here is the contents of the shortcut:
C:\WINDOWS\system32\net.exe use V: \\lawson\printing /USER:NancyK
/PERSISTENT:NO
In order to troubleshoot it, I've placed it in a batch script so I can
use the pause statement to see the results. I've also modified it
slightly in an effort to resolve the issue.

Do I need to compile the C code first?
Do I need a c copmiler at all?
Any suggestions for a begginner?

Raidz vdev size... again.
Hi,
i''m new to the list so please bare with me. This isn''t an OpenSolaris
related problem but i hope it''s still the right list to post to.
I''m on the way to move a backup server to using zfs based storage, but i
don''t want to spend too much drives to parity (the 16 drives are attached
to a 3ware raid controller so i could also just use raid6 there).

goodfit par estimates
...to get back from goodfit what it estimated the parameters to be?
I used the code
fit<-goodfit(round(data$PLX_NRX),type="nbinomial"
and got a pretty good fit. I could not however duplicate this good fit with any parameter estimates that I had.
Any ideas???
Thanks,

CANNOT BROWSE (the solution)
Hi all.
I?m using the binary distribution of SAMBA 1.9.16 on SCO3.2v4.2.
Last weekend we got a new server. Installed all applications and all
worked fine (as expected) ...
but:
the win/nt clients could map the shares, but they could not browse the
SAMBA-box!
I checked the "browseable=" options, but everything looked ok.

I've noticed that wine-users@winehq.com is no longer a gateway to
comp.emulators.ms-windows.wine and I know at least Lawson might be able to
shed some light on this.
I've attached a log of .\tools\wineinstall if anyone is interested.

Alternatives to FXS cards?
Hi everyone,
I know someone makes a product that's a POTS phone to SIP converter,
where you just plug your POTS phone in one side and the network cable in
the other. Has anyone successfully used any of these with Asterisk, and
if so how expensive were they?
I ask partly out of frustration with the FXS cards but mostly because it
would make installation MUCH easier for what we're
