invalid vdev configuration after power failure
What does it mean for a vdev to have an invalid configuration and how can it be fixed or reset? As you can see, the following pool can no longer be imported: (Note that the "last accessed by another system" warning is because I moved these drives to my test workstation.) ~$ zpool import -f pool0 cannot import ''pool0'': invalid vdev configuration ~$ zpool import pool:

Kernel panic on zfs import (hardware failure)

ZFS recovery tools
Hi, I have just recovered from a ZFS crash. During the antagonizing time this took, I was surprised to learn how undocumented the tools and options for ZFS recovery we''re. I managed to recover thanks to some great forum posts from Victor Latushkin, however without his posts I would still be crying at night... I think the worst example is the zdb man page, which all it does is to ask you to "contact a Sun Engineer", as this command is for experts only. What the hell? I don''t have a support contract for my home machines......

ZFS, power failures, and UPSes
Hello, I''ve looked around Google and the zfs-discuss archives but have not been able to find a good answer to this question (and the related questions that follow it): How well does ZFS handle unexpected power failures? (e.g. environmental power failures, power supply dying, etc.) Does it consistently gracefully recover? Should having a UPS be considered a (strong) recommendation or

# devices in raidz.
for s10u2, documentation recommends 3 to 9 devices in raidz. what is the basis for this recommendation? i assume it is performance and not failure resilience, but i am just guessing... [i know, recommendation was intended for people who know their raid cold, so it needed no further explanation] thanks... oz -- ozan s. yigit | oz at somanetworks.com | 416 977 1414 x 1540 I have a hard time

ZFS Panicing System Cluster Crash effect
Issues with ZFS and Sun Cluster If a cluster node crashes and HAStoragePlus resource group containing ZFS structure (ie. Zpool) is transitioned to a surviving node, the zpool import can cause the surviving node to panic. Zpool was obviously not exported in controlled fashion because of hard crash. Storage structure is - HW RAID protected LUN from array. Zpool build on single HW LUN. Zpool created

b134 - Mirrored rpool won''t boot unless both mirrors are present
I have two 500 GB drives on my system that are attached to built-in SATA ports on my Asus M4A785-M motherboard, running in AHCI mode. If I shut down the system, remove either drive, and then try to boot the system, it will fail to boot. If I disable the splash screen, I find that it will display the SunOS banner and the hostname, but it never gets as far as the "Reading ZFS config:"

Need Help Invalidating Uberblock
I have a ZFS pool that has been corrupted. The pool contains a single device which was actually a file on UFS. The machine was accidentally halted and now the pool is corrupt. There are (of course) no backups and I''ve been asked to recover the pool. The system panics when trying to do anything with the pool. root@:/$ zpool status panic[cpu1]/thread=fffffe8000758c80: assertion failed:

raidz failure, trying to recover
Long story short, my cat jumped on my server at my house crashing two drives at the same time. It was a 7 drive raidz (next time ill do raidz2). The server crashed complaining about a drive failure, so i rebooted into single user mode not realizing that two drives failed. I put in a new 500g replacement and had zfs start a replace operation which failed at about 2% because there was two broken

slog / log recovery is here!
(From the README) # Jeb Campbell <jebc at c4solutions.net> NOTE: This is last resort if you need your data now. This worked for me, and I hope it works for you. If you have any reservations, please wait for Sun to release something official, and don''t blame me if your data is gone. PS -- This worked for me b/c I didn''t try and replace the log on a running system. My

ZFS Locking Up periodically
I''ve recently re-installed an X4500 running Nevada b109 and have been experiencing ZFS lock ups regularly (perhaps once every 2-3 days). The machine is a backup server and receives hourly ZFS snapshots from another thumper - as such, the amount of zfs activity tends to be reasonably high. After about 48 - 72 hours, the file system seems to lock up and I''m unable to do anything

Does ZFS work with SAN-attached devices?
Hi All, Its been a while since I touched zfs. Is the below still the case with zfs and hardware raid array? Do we still need to provide two luns from the hardware raid then zfs mirror those two luns? http://www.opensolaris.org/os/community/zfs/faq/#hardwareraid Thanks, Shawn -- This message posted from opensolaris.org

zpool import hangs indefinitely (retry post in parts; too long?)
Now at 36 hours since zdb process start and: PID USERNAME SIZE RSS STATE PRI NICE TIME CPU PROCESS/NLWP 827 root 4936M 4931M sleep 59 0 0:50:47 0.2% zdb/209 Idling at 0.2% processor for nearly the past 24 hours... feels very stuck. Thoughts on how to determine where and why? -- This message posted from opensolaris.org
