Have spoken to Soren, from my bootlog he believes that the problem is in
atapicam causing the system to lock up. He is happy to answer some
questions but doesnt have time to delve into atapicam himself.
Did you author atapicam, I have seen your name on the sourcecode, can
you help me further? Whats next?

Turning off Wine Applications menu integration
...nterferes quite a bit with the SLAB Main Menu which I believe
will be introduced into Gnome 2.18 as the default.
Is there any way to turn off these desktop menus? I believe (from a
usability point of view) there _SHOULD_ be an option in wine config
under desktop integration.
