Reshape - strange outputs
Dear R Users,
I am using the reshape package to reformat gridded data into column format using the code shown below. However, when I display the resulting object, a single column is fomed (instead of three) and all the latitude values (which should be in either column one or two) are collected at the bottom. Also, the NA values aren't removed, despite this being requested in the code.
Code:
# NetCDF file has been read in and is being processed...
arunoff_1986_temp <- get.var.ncdf(netcdf_1036_temp, "arunof...

Subset returning unexpected result
Dear all,
I am attempting to subset a data frame based on a range of latitude values. I want to extract the values of 'interception' where latitude ranges between 50 and 60. I am doing this using the following code, yet it doesn't return the results I expected:
> test <- subset(int1901, Latitude>=50 & Latitude <60, select=c(Latitude, Intercepti...

averaging X of specific Y (latitude)
Hello
I have a table describing butterfly range traits.
It is composed of three columns as below
Species name range size (X) latitude of range midpoint (Y)
There are 11 kinds of butterflies.
Each has its range size, and the latitude of each range midpoint ranges
from 9 to 19.
I would like to have the average range size of every degree of latitude.
For example, the average range size of latitude degree 10 (10.0-10.99:

Regex for ^ (the caret symbol)?
Hello R-helpers,
I am trying to search for string that includes the caret symbol, using the
following code:
grepl("latitude^2",temp)
And R doesn't like that. It gives me:
> temp<-c("latitude^2","latitude and latitude^2","longitude^2","longitude
and longitude^2")
> temp

Converiting longitude/latitude to utm
Dear all,
I have been trying to convert coordinates from longitude/latitude to utm

Here is what I did:

Determine if a set of x and y-latitude points are inside of a polygon using R
Objective: Determine if a set of x and y-latitude points are inside of
a polygon using R.
Lets say I have 9 polygons. Where I have labeled the polygons to be
checked from 1-9. The problem I?m running into is running the
point.in.polygon to check if those points are in one of several
polygons, as my code overwrites the result.

latitude and longitude distribution
Good day to you all,
I have lightning data containing date, time, latitude and longitude. I hope
that distribution of latitude and longitude will give number of lightning
occurrence in a region. I have used factor function to sum up the number of
events on latitude and longitude axis and saved as x and y. But when I tried
to plot the two, I had and error message ( Error...

how to plot y-axis on the right of x-axis
Dear List,
I have a richness data distributing across 20 N to 20 S latitude. (120 E-140
E longitude).
I would like to draw the richness in the north hemisphere and a regression
line in the plot
(x-axis: latitude, y-axis: richness in the north hemisphere).
The above demand is done using plot.
Then, south hemisphere richness and regression are required to be generated

help to use ppp in spatial analysis
Hi,
i am using spatstat package for spatial data analysis and now i have a problem to create a point pattern. The points are in file "points.txt" (first column for Latitude and second column for Longitude ) and I imported them and separated each columns in two arrays x and y. If I plots x and y ( e.g plot(x,y) ) the result appears in square area without problems and the scale is adequate to visual analysis of points ploted. But if i try to use ppp function to creat...

which Latitude? they've probably made 100 different laptops over the
last couple decades branded 'Latitude'.

New laptop recomendation
Hi,
I'm recently retired from my university job. I am looking for a laptop
to run CentOS 6/7. My university was a traditional Dell site so I've
used Latitude laptops for years, currently E6500/E6510.
Anybody got any experience of running CentOS on the newer Dell
Latitudes E5000 or E7000. These are not certified according to Redhats'
Hardware Guide.
Alternatively Precision Workstations would do. These can be supplied
with Ubuntu installed so th...

plotmath under windows (PR#3672)
...1)
This alleged bug is Windows specific and occurs when using Windows metafile
plots.
The problem does not occur in a Linux version.
It does not occur in the pt rintout when a graphic is saved to a postscript file
under Windows.
The problem came to light when using plotmath to label a plot with latitudes
containing degree symbols.
If expression(40 * degree) is used it is written on the default line for
labels.
If expression(paste(40 * degree, " S") is used it displced closer to the axis.
Pasting any character (except "") has this effect.
The following code illustrates the...

MEMDISK issues and Dell OptiPlex and Latitude systems
Hello all. Again I call upon the greats of this mailing list to help me with an issue related to MEMDISK - notably when paired with various Dell OptiPlex and Latitude systems.
The issue presented itself sometime ago and I best dealt with it by remaining with version 3.83 of the SYSLINUX package. But valuing the improved changes fostered by newer versions, I would prefer to move forward with current versions.
Though I have recently posted this issue to the mai...

Calculating distance between longitude, latitude of 2 points
Hi all,
I would like to know a way of calculating the distance between 2 points when
I already have the longitude and latitude of the points.
For example :
Point 1 : 52? 9'54.00"N 4?25'8.40"E
Point 2 : 52?27'46.80"N 4?33'18.00"E
Distance between point 1 and point in km ....
Is there any functions already available for this ?
Any help will be much appreciated!
