preallocation=full Vs preallocation=metadata
Hi All I was reading through this: http://kashyapc.com/2011/12/02/little-more-disk-io-perf-improvement-with-fallocateing-a-qcow2-disk/ I was basically searching for pointers on improving disk I/O. I wanted to know the purpose of preallocation=full & preallocation=metadata , What is the difference between them ? and which one would yield a better disk I/O speed ? Appreciate your

...id not miss it. As you'll see from another of my posts: I tried that. The dynamic zone code crashed named. (Don't know why, yet. It happened at the end of the day, and I no longer skip workout time for work, no matter *how* interesting the problem, so...) However... I have to say that lash-up strikes me as kind of fragile. Jim

FW: How to delay before mounting root filesystem
...rnel to be patched to allow time for the USB device to be initialized. I haven't had consistent results with the kernel patches, so RUNT uses an initial ramdisk. Take a look at the RUNT website: http://ncsu.edu/project/runt and try making an initrd like is in RUNT. I've used busybox with LASH and sleep compiled in. I also load modules in the ramdisk, but you can do without that if it's compiled into the kernel. Obvious question... Did you run lilo after changing lilo.conf? Joel

Yeah.... no. I'm thinking perhaps it's time to rethink this entire plan. Regards, Jim -- Note: My mail server employs *very* aggressive anti-spam filtering. If you reply to this email and you...

Is it possible to change a xen parameter at runtime? For some of the parameters it would make no sense to do so, but for some, like "hvm_debug", it would be really useful. push/pop on a stack
Is there a package for stacks with pushing and popping? I'd really like to do something like push(par(no.readonly=TRUE)) some stuff.... par(pop()) It seems like it wouldn't be difficult, and that someone may have already implemented a set of stack functions, and I wouldn't like to duplicate it.
