can't connect to an Eaton Powerware 9155 over a usb-serial adapter
hello everyone,
I've been testing the NUT solution as opposed to the undocumented LanSafe
application to control my Eaton UPS.
I am on a Slackware 13.37 system with a 2.6.37.6 kernel. NUT version is
2.4.3 .
I installed the tarball by compiling it directly on my system (as a
slackbuild package).
The UPS is an Eaton Powerware 9155, but I don't know how to obtain the
manufacturing dat...

CentOS 5.4 and 5.5 UPS EATON/MGE
Hi Guys,
I have a couple of servers which runs CentOS 5.5 and CentOS 5.4. We have
decided to buy a UPS and we choose Eaton EX RT 11 plus eaton network
management card minislot. I have read on the site of Eaton that they have
two applications which could gracefully shutdown my servers - LanSafe and
NetWatch. My experience with UPS and those applications is zero so I`m here
for some advises? Do you prefer NetWatch over LanSafe? What is your
suggestions?Any info is much appreciated!
Thank you in advanced!

help w/ Powerware Prestige 9
Hi,
I've got a Powerware Prestige 9 1kVA UPS that seems to not be working with
nut. It's not in the current "supported hardware" list, but the old
bcmxcp page lists it as being a UPS that speaks that protocol.
I have the following in my ups.conf
[powerware]
driver = bcmxcp
port = /dev/ttyS0
desc = "Powerware Prestige 9 EXT"
baud_rate = 2400
And when I start the

I tried the powerware 5110 with win xp running the provided lansafe/drivers
My mate had same powerware 5110 running on gentoo and he was saying he
had to modify the bcmxcp_usb code because the Australian model of the
UPS was "different". unfortunately he's destroyed his gentoo box so i
can't access the code.

Powerware (Eaton) Prestige 9 UPS
I noted some correspondence from several years back about supporting
this device with bcmxcp, and the problems therein. Since I have one of
these UPS units, still going strong, and the Eaton LanSafe stuff has
finally caused me enough grief to abandon it, I figured I'd take a look
at this.
The issue is not that bad - the bcmxcp driver query of the topology
block (2 bytes!) is returning as block 0x09 and not 0x13 . . . as per
the protocol spec, "some command queries may return 0x9...

Driver for Powerware 3105 (USB)
I ordered some Powerware 3105 devices for Linux workstations. These
devices only have an USB interface. I understood too late that support
for Powerware devices is only available for the serial interface.
Since the protocols over serial and USB seem to be identical, it was not
too difficult to modify the bcmxcp driver to support USB.
The new and changed files can be found here:

So, I am able to see basic information through lsusb, but I am not able to get bcmxcp_ups to establish communication with the 5115. Also, I am able to get LanSafe to communicate with the UPS via USB under WindowsXP and I have tried two different Powerware 5115 boxes. I have verified the USB cable and the USB port on the host and they are both operating. I have also tested the host interface and libusb with custom software layered on libhid (on top of libus...
