"yum update" did not update kernel on one box
This morning, I did "yum update" on my wife's box. It did not update the kernel. I ran the command again, and there is a response that no updates are available. Her box is a Compaq Evo D300v Celeron. During the past couple of days, when I did "yum update", on my daughters box and mine (Dell Dimensions), the kernel was updated and in the GRUB menus now, there are two (2)

Skype Public Key - How to install PGP Public Key in CentOS5, from alternate site that I have in web browser?
Hello: A simple question: On this Wiki page: http://wiki.centos.org/HowTos/Skype it says that the normal method for the Public Key isn't working. I copied the URL for the alternate key location http://gd.tuwien.ac.at/infosys/phone/skype/rpm-public-key.asc into the browser and I get a PGP Public Key. Question: What rpm command do I use, to Import the Public Key that's in the browser

Installing Google's Picasa for Linux on CentOS 5
I downloaded the .rpm file from Google and am trying to install Picasa for Linux on CentOS 5. I get the below error. Is this because I'm using SELinux or because of something else? I found a small Picasa folder in /opt (24 items, 143.7 KB) but it seems to end there. Picasa is one of the programs my wife uses on Windows. TIA! DVD reader: Hardware problem or OS glitch?
Hello: The box is dual boot (Win XP & CentOS 5). A Dell Dimension 4300 Celeron. There was an intermittent problem with this last year and last Thanksgiving, I wiped the HD and installed Win XP and CentOS 5 clean. My daughter asked me to install KStars which is in the kdeedu RPM on the Fedora Core 6 Install DVD. I did that, without any problems, on my box and on my wife's box. On the

Dual boot box: WinXP & CentOS 5: Impossible to restore WinXP?
We rarely use M$ Windows, but I let my daughter surf pbskids.org while using Windows and a Trojan Horse modified or deleted the user32.dll file. I found the instructions on the Microsoft Support web site, and it would be very easy for me to expand a new copy of user32.dll if I could get the MS WinXP CD to work. It boots OK, I press a key so it will search hardware and it then has hard drive

Or, if I need more than one command, what are they? You should wget that file and run the rpm command as instructed in that wiki. Akemi: Having the proper command did the trick! Thanks a million! It's installed. :-) Lanny

Video conferencing package: Ekiga or other?
My wife bought an inexpensive store brand web cam, so she can do video conferencing with people using Microsoft NetMeeting. Probably it is not supported in Linux and we will need to buy a supported web cam. I installed the Ekiga package. Is there something easier to configure and use or is Ekiga the best way to go? TIA! -- Lanny --------------------------------------------------------- Over 800

/etc/yum/pluginconf.d/priorities.conf file disappeared
On 28 July, I changed from ProtectBase to Priorities. I kept unusually detailed notes that day. Yesterday, when I added the RPMForge respository, so I could install MPlayer, I found that the /etc/yum/pluginconf.d/priorities.conf file no longer exists. I'm not sure how that happened. Question: Is there a way to regenerate that file? TIA -- Lanny
