weird fail with conversion to bridges?
...e requires using different vlan IDs. suffice it to say I need bridges to connect a few different vlans that should all be one but can''t be because of firmware constraints. so my first step is to get shorewall to know about bridges. I convert my existing config to a bunch of bridges lan0 becomes a member of br-lan0, lan1 becomes a member of br-lan1, and shorewall gets edited. interfaces and routestopped, I prefix lan0 and lan1 with br- and I restart shorewall (sudo shorewall safe-restart). This is a ubuntu system, and far as I can tell everything is right. I''m usin...

HTB qdisc within HTB root qdisc
Hello... Im trying to setup HTB to allow me to shape traffic from two upstreams that meets on single lan0 interface. I prefer to use HTB qdisc within HTB root qdisc for cleaner rules design. Seems that it doesnt work at all. tc -s class show doesnt show any traffic on other classes attached to HTB qdisc. Linux 2.6.20.7 iproute-2.6.20-070313 Weird thing is that tc -s class show that 1: and 2: are bot...

bridge or vlan
Hello to everyone, Here is the situation: [LAN1]---[eth3]/----------\ | LinuxBR |[eth2]---[LAN0]---[linuxGW]---[internet] [LAN2]---[eth4]\----------/ Whole LAN is in subnet 10.0.0.0/24. So I need: LAN0, LAN1, LAN2 could not see each other. LAN0, LAN1, LAN2 is in same subnet (10.0.0.0/24). All LANs have to get only internet. How can I configure LinuxBR to do so? Do I have to do o...

Samba4 and 0.0.0.0:137 and 0.0.0.0:138 opened, why ? How do close it ?
Thanks for this answer. As I understood, for example if parameter bind interfaces only = yes is and interfaces = lan0 (192.168.0.254) is and if broadcast packet goes from 95.95.95.14 such packet will be dropped (in other words) ? Am I right ? And other thing. Why is 192.168.0.255 (network broadcast) opened for ? May be exact such address (network broadcast) is inbtended for receiving broadcasts ? Within exact su...

is this a DNS resolution problem ?
...sting. I think the problem is in the fact it is configured to listen on several interfaces. These interfaces are virtual (I'm using vlan and 802.1q). There are several subnets (named lan_xxx), all nated by a FreeBSD box on the outside (the outside is a private network too, let's name it lan0. The PDC has one interface for each subnets, even for lan0. But isn't there a problem if the PDC announce himself with the same name on all the vlans, as the carbone is only delcared for lan0 ? Should I not use virtual servers with several smb.conf for each vlans, where the PDC could be nam...

Samba4 and 0.0.0.0:137 and 0.0.0.0:138 opened, why ? How do close it ?
I have Samba4 4.1.14 (built from sources) installed at Ubuntu 14.04 LTS x32 and acting as Standalone server at the time. Here are 3 faces at Ubuntu: lo, lan and wan. There are lines: bind interfaces only = yes interfaces = lo lan0 in smb.conf But netstat -tulpn shows 0.0.0.0 binded address: tcp 0 0 192.168.0.254:139 0.0.0.0:* LISTEN smbd udp 0 0 192.168.0.255:137 0.0.0.0:* nmbd udp 0 0 192.168.0.254:137 0.0.0.0:* nmbd *udp 0 0 0.0.0.0:137 <http:...

Systemd service unit file needs to wait until a specific interface is up
...consider "up" - i.e. have an IP address. ens3 doesn't get it's IP address until much later. This works for Carlos though because he doesn't need an IP address - just the device existing. I have no idea how it worked for the stackexchange poster. Apparently because "lan0" is a virtual device as well ("sys-devices-virtual-net-lan0") that they need, not a more "physical" device like "net-devices-ens3", and it gets an IP address at the same time as creation. I've been dealing with issues like this for a while - systems with...

[Bridge] [PATCH v2 net-next 6/6] selftests: forwarding: add dynamic FDB test
...tion to what is loaded along the > way. A major problem with my system. I'm sorry for perhaps asking something entirely obvious, but have you tried: kernel-dir $ rsync -avr tools/testing/selftests/ root@$board:selftests/ board $ cd selftests/drivers/net/dsa/ board $ ./bridge_locked_port.sh lan0 lan1 lan2 lan3 ? This is how I always run them, and it worked fine with both Debian (where it's easy to add missing packages to the rootfs) or with a more embedded-oriented Buildroot.

Problem with masquerading and bridges
...single port for now, but I''m going to add more ports later. I''m basing my configuration on the two-interface quick start guide. I''m using Shorewall 3.0.4 on Ubuntu Dapper. My network looks like this: * The firewall with eth0, eth1 and ppp0 - eth0 is part of the bridge lan0 - lan0 (the bridge) has IP 192.168.1.2 - eth1 is unused. - ppp0 is a PPPoE connection to the Internet over lan0 to a DSL modem * One DSL modem accessible over lan0 with IP address 192.168.1.1 * One laptop accessible over lan0 with IP address 192.168.1.3 My goal is to have the laptop access...

Really changing the hostname
I need to change the host name on a test server, and in the past when I used hostname to change the hostname, it did not seem to change it everywhere. I really don't want to do a rebuild just yet, but I have to feel confident that hostname is really changed (reboot is not too much of an issue). What is the recommened practice? Other than get it right the first time.
