Help With File transfer of files named "Apple*" + Lacie 5Big RAID
Hello Rsync Community, I have been using rsync for several years to backup servers across an array of different areas. I have run into a new problem that I cannot find an answer for. We just recently purchased a Lacie 5Big Network RAID: http://www.cdw.com/shop/products/default.aspx?EDC=1596257 for one organization. We set up a test server to start backing up to this RAID via AFP. The

rsync time machine backup permissions
What is the order that rsync uses to set permissions? Time Machine directories have ACL permissions that basically prohibit making any changes of any kind. In order to make a backup of the directory, you would need to set those permissions after copying everything in the subdirectories. Is rsync smart enough to do it in that order? accented characters in filenames mangled when rsyncing to a samba share
Hi folks, I am having a problem rsyncing files with accents in the names. I've seen similar problems reported a few times before in the archives but they didn't seem to be referring to exactly the same problem as what I have, and I'm not good enough at Linux to solve my problem by generalising from the information there: sorry. Anyway, my specific details are this. I am running rsync

lacie drive and CentOS 5.3 question...
I'm adding a couple lacie external USB drives to my CentOS 5.3 system and running into a few issues... when I connect them, I see the following in dmesg: usb 1-1: new high speed USB device using ehci_hcd and address 11 usb 1-1: configuration #1 chosen from 1 choice And that's it. No device assignment information, the usb-storage module does not appear to be loaded and I am unable to

rsync time machine backup permissions
Dear rsync users, I'm trying to copy my Time Machine Backup from my old USB hard drive to a new one. I got error messages, because rsync don't create group and other permissions. I use rsync 3.1.3. Did I use the correct parameters? Who has an idea, what mistake? Thanks! Best, André -- The bash script: #!/bin/bash source=/Volumes/LaCie\ d2\ Quadra\ v3/Backups.backupdb

fsck.ext3 reporting large file I cannot find
I am checking a file system (ext3) as shown below. It is actually a fresh file system, as I had deleted all partitions and created an ext3 file system. But when I run the check with the verbose option, it says I have one large file. Am I missing something here, or is it odd that I cannot find this large file it is reporting? I reviewed some documentation on ext3 file systems, and experimented

Rsync via ssh hangs on same file repeatedly
Hi all, I'm having problems with an rsync via ssh process hanging during transfer. The basic problem, (gory details to follow): I've set up a machine on my LAN to act as the receiver and have two (soon to be more) remote servers transferring files via a script. It seems as if certain files are causing the transfer to hang. These are different files on each of the sending machines,

[OT] *nix Server/Windows Client Tips and tricks
Sorry if this is too off topic, but one of the things that happens when you use a *nix box is you have opportunities to do some nifty tricks with shell scripts and whatnot to help maintain your network. Sometimes, this comes at the expense of using the tools that come with some windows software and is the result of necessity. Other times, this comes because the "nifty" tools that come

Export Samba mount using nfs
Hello, I have an Lacie NAS disk attached to an Gigabit network. Since it only exports samba I mounted on one of my gigabit Linux boxes with smbmount //lacie/terabyte /TERABYTE -o defaults, username=genuser, password=genuser Now I need to export that to all my linux boxes not on the Gigabit network using nfs. When I try to mount I get: mount: old:/TERABYTE failed, reason given

Hello, our samba server runs in security = user mode. Now I need a share people can connect to, even if they are not in the domain. I tried this configuration [open] comment = Fuer Scripte die via Mcafee gestartet werden guest only = yes #security = share path = /san/san-lacie/abteilungen/allgemein/mcafee read only = no writable = no printable = no Browseable = No but it does not work.

colors in the console
...fore. This tells me that Private Shell is still doing color. What controls the color coding in the CLI? I found something in the source about it, but again, since it has been recompiled, this should not have changed. Is there a config file somewhere that I'm too blind to find? Chan_SCCP vs. Chan_Skinny
Lacy's response in the thread 'Why does everyone seem to dislike *now?', has a small bit that caught my eye. Chan_Skinny made a lot of progress between 1.2 and 1.4, and even more in the later 1.4.X releases. I am curious as to which features/functions that chan_skinny might be lacking com...

Music on Hold Problem w/ Transfers
...23 using the same config and same music on hold files, it works. I've looked at the sample config files for 1.4 and nothing seems to jump out at me as to what the problem could be. For the purposes of figuring this out, I'm using Zaptel 1.4.6 for both 1.2and 1.4. Any clues?
