Speex 1.1.1 is out
...erations have been converted. Please give it a try and report any
difference with previous versions (both for float and fixed-point).
Again, note that this is an unstable (read experimental) release and
*not* production-quality code (yet).

Thread Safety
...ntly. It's in 1.1.1 but not in 1.0.2. I say the problem is minor
because the worst case is slightly suboptimal encoding (decoding not
affected), but no crash or pathological results. I'll include the fix in
the next stable release.

XScale realtime encoding possible?
...ore like 3000 times slower. This means that all of the
float operations must be removed for the code to work properly. ...or
maybe there's a way to make the emulation in a library instead of making
the kernel trap illegal instructions.

Testing for beta 3

Speex 1.1.4 is out

complicated for some of the Speex files. Also, you have to find a
portable way to get the build system use different compilation switches
for different files. Last thing, it also makes the detection function
less trivial.

[PATCH] Make SSE Run Time option.

Fixed-point in CVS
...Last thing: to enable the fixed-point, you need to compile the
FIXED_POINT defined (sorry, no configure option yet).

Quality
I was wondering if the developers were using anything to "objectively" test
the quality of the speex vocoder. For instance PSQM or one of the many
derivatives. Mean Opinion Scoring seems an expensive route.
Is there some open source software to use for this?

Speex 1.1.4 is out

means that the code will crash on anything lower than a pentium3. Not
really useful. Of course, you can make it auto-detect at compile-time,
but that means you can't use the same binary on SSE and non-SSE
machines.

Speex wishlist
...VAD
(Voice Activity Detection). It's also possible to have the VAD without
VBR, so that Speex does comfort noise generation during silence, but
otherwise constant bit-rate. Last thing, the 2.15 kbps mode now has a
better (OK, less ugly) quality.

Videoconferencing with speex and jabber
....6 kbps, I can't distinguish the coded from the original and
15 kbps is pretty close)? I'm also not sure I see the idea of narrowband
PCM either, since you can get better quality at lower bit-rates by
encoding in wideband (16 kHz).

stereo, ...), the max size for a frame is 62 bytes in narrowband, 106
