Is this card new? I''m not finding it at the usual places like Newegg, etc.
It looks like the LSI SAS3081E-R, but probably at 1/2 the cost.

Offtopic: Which SAS / SATA HBA do you recommend?
Hi all,
Sorry for the offtopic question. I hope though that others on this list
or reading the archive find the answers useful too.
It seems the Adaptec 1405 4port SAS HBA I bought only works with RHEL
and SuSE through a closed source driver, and thus is quite useless :-(
I was stupid enought to think "Works with RHEL and SuSE" meant "Certified
for RHEL and SuSE, but driver in

Is LSI SAS3081E-R suitable for a ZFS NAS ?
According to various posts the LSI SAS3081E-R seems to work well with OpenSolaris.
But I''ve got pretty chilled-out from my recent problems with Areca-1680''s.
Could anyone please confirm that the LSI SAS3081E-R works well ?
Is hotplug supported ?
Anything else I should know before buying one of these cards ?
Thanks,
Arnaud

Hi,
The 6.10 folder is in place, but we need to give the team chance to upload. I

Fully supported 12-port SATA cards?
...pany
and I have advocated for Solaris and ZFS.
But now we are having trouble to find any good SATA controller for
12+ disks, there are Areca cards, but they seems very flaky (24 port
support, but hangs with more than 12 in JBOD mode, hangs on disk
failures etc).
The AOC-SAT2-MV8,AOC-USAS-L8i have been mentioned, but it had
problems with device numbering and/or as I understood it no support
for hot plugging.
Isn''t there any supported PCI.* SATA card with at least 12 ports that
do work and have a real driver supporting hot plugging/cfgadm-
operations?
The HCL does not...

Replacement brackets for Supermicro UIO SAS cards....
I just wanted to share this useful info as I haven''t seen it anywhere.
My scrounging-genius colleague, Lawrence, found standard PCI-e
replacement brackets for the justifiably popular Supermicro AOC-USAS-L8i
cards. They cost a few bucks each, fit perfectly and allow us to use
these cards extensively without any case-hackery.

There are also brackets for the low-profile cards available, but I''...

Supermicro SAS/SATA controllers?
...8 port with a marvel chipset. There have been several
mentions of LSI based controllers on the mailing lists and I''m wondering
about them.
One obvious difference is that the Marvel contoller is PCI-X and the LSI
controllers are PCI-E.
Supermicro have several LSI controllers. AOC-USASLP-L8i with the LSI 1068E
and AOC-USASLP-H8iR with the LSI 1078.
Are they stable? How does is the performance compare to the Marvel? Does
hot swap cause problems?
The LSI1068E has 16MB SRAM onboard cache - I expect this helps
performances, but does it causes issues with ZIL?
The LSI1078 has 512MB DDR...

Going from 6 to 8 disks on ASUS M2N-SLI Deluxe motherboard
My current home fileserver (running Open Solaris 111b and ZFS) has an ASUS
M2N-SLI DELUXE motherboard. This has 6 SATA connections, which are
currently all in use (mirrored pair of 80GB for system zfs pool, two
mirrors of 400GB both in my data pool).
I''ve got two more hot-swap drive bays. And I''m getting up towards 90%
full on the data pool. So, it''s time to expand,

SAS or SATA HBA with write cache
Anyone know of a SATA and/or SAS HBA with battery backed write cache?
Seems like using a full-blown RAID controller and exporting each individual drive back to ZFS as a single LUN is a waste of power and $$$. Looking for any thoughts or ideas.
Thanks.

snv_110 -> snv_121 produces checksum errors on Raid-Z pool
I have a 5-500GB disk Raid-Z pool that has been producing checksum errors right after upgrading SXCE to build 121. They seem to be randomly occurring on all 5 disks, so it doesn''t look like a disk failure situation.
Repeatingly running a scrub on the pools randomly repairs between 20 and a few hundred checksum errors.
Since I hadn''t physically touched the machine, it seems a

Best 1.5TB drives for consumer RAID?
Which consumer-priced 1.5TB drives do people currently recommend?
I had zero read/write/checksum errors so far in 2 years with my trusty old Western Digital WD7500AAKS drives, but now I want to upgrade to a new set of drives that are big, reliable and cheap.
As of Jan 2010 it seems the price sweet spot is the 1.5TB drives.
As I had a lot of success with Western Digital drives I thought I would
