tcng questions: TCP_ACK, ebtables
...he recommends using: class( <$ack> ) if ip_len < 64 && ip_hl == 0x5 && (raw[33].b >> 4) & 0xff; So basically the tcp_ACK rule doesn''t work? Has it been fixed? Which way is right? Secondly - I was wondering if anyone is trying to use l7filter on a bridging Ethernet setup. It looks to me like the packets don''t get to the iptables layer so whatever marking I do with l7filter doesn''t affect packets going through the bridge, only packets addressed to the bridge itself (which I have given an IP so that I can run some other...

Distro ready out of the box
...r a simple question. Do You know if there is a distro which is ready for traffic shaping etc. ''out of the box''? I mean a distro which does not require patching the kernel and/or iptables and/or installing from source etc. and gives the user most of the tools needed (imq, ipp2p, l7filter and so on). many thanks riki

Packet loss with htb+sfq+l7filter
Hi all! I''m trying to shape traffic in a dorm''s network (4 mbit symmetrical internet link, about 200 computers, heavy p2p usage). The router is a p4xeon running linux 2.6.9 with the qnet patches (http://kem.p.lodz.pl/~peter/qnet/). When I activate ip_forward I get >20% packet loss and a lot of duplicates. Any ideas? I attach my shaping script. Thank you very much in advance,

linux box as vlan p2p limiter and firewall?
re I would like to do some firewalling and p2p shaping/limiting on one of the vlans in my network and I was thinking of using linux box as transparent bridged firewall/limiter. For this I''m planning to use AMD64 2.2Ghz box with 2 1gbit NIC (Broadcom 5721), that will be bridged. The box must be totally transparent and unseen in the network, as well as it should have much influence on

limiting bandwidth on a sequence of ports.
Hello. I have just started using iproute2 commands, and I am having a go at making bittorrent use the same bandwidth for upload as for download. I am stuck I think in understanding speeds I connect to the internet through a router modem which gets the real IP and assigns me a private ip through dhcp. So this router can handle a private network, and route it to the internet, pressumably with nat.

How to fight with encrypted p2p
Hi I believe that whole question is in topic. Is there any way to recognize ( and then shape ) p2p traffic which is encrypted? Modern p2p clients have this ability moreover some of them have this enabled by default. Now I''m using ipp2p for iptables but as I know this doesn''t recognize encrypted traffic. Thanks in advance. Re: QoS for Voip.
...ny active > users, you need a lot of bandwidth if each of them wants to be doing VoIP > and P2P so I don''t see *that* many problems there. Of course, I don''t have > any practical experience there. You can "put your foot" over the p2p, I''m about to test l7filter, but I''ll tell you how it works for me right now: I have a 900 users network, and about 80% of them are always active, I have VoIP, and, off course, p2p. I also have to route traffic for local net through the same router :-S I created a default class (30), any traffic that I didn'...

htb: HowTo identify squid cache hits
Hi list... I work for a school in the netherlands with a 2mbit Internet uplink and about 3800 eager student who want to play games on the Internet using one of our 800 workstations. Problem was that those game playing students are concentrated in 2 of our 6 physical locations... and they consumed the bandwidth which the other location would like to use for educational purposes. The thing we did
