Connecting MQ from Rails ??
Hi all,
I want to Connect to IBM MQ from Rails/Ruby, can it be done? and get the
messages from the Queue, then i want to use this message in ruby/rails.
Is there a direct way of doing the above job?? If so any packages are
available?
If there is not a way currently, and any thoughts of how we can do the
above job indirectly through some other means or round about ways or

Compare species presence and absence between sites
Dear List,
I want to compare the presence and absence of bird species based on the
sites in a matrix.
The matrix has 5 rows for Island A, B, C, D, and E.
It has 100 columns for bird species D001-D100.
In each cell of the matrix,
the presence-absence of bird species will be recorded as 1 or 0.
(For example, if species D001 is found on Island D,
the matrix cell of species D001 and Island D

mixed ordinal logistic regression
...the difference among groups under a given
treatment is random-effect, while the difference among the treatments is
fixed-effect.
So , I hope to know the information on ordinal logistic regression in a
mixed model in R.

appropriate test in glm when the family is Gamma
Dear R users,
Which test is most appropriate in glm when the family is Gamma?
In the help page of anova.glm, I found the following
?For models with known dispersion (e.g., binomial and Poisson fits) the chi-squared test is most appropriate, and for those with dispersion estimated by moments (e.g., gaussian, quasibinomial and quasipoisson fits) the F test is most appropriate.?

Could not fit correct values in discriminant analysis by bruto.
Shuji,
I suspect that bruto blows up because your data are linearly separable.
To see this (if you didn't already know), try
library(lattice)
splom(~x, groups = y)
and look at the first row. If you are trying to do classification, there
are a few methods that would choke on this (logistic regression) and a
few that won't (trees, svms etc). I would guess that bruto is in the
latter

Talking to Java APIs
I''m trying to figure out how Ruby in general, and/or anything extra
Rails may have, can talk to Java APIs of third party server apps.
After quite a few search attempts net-wide and on ruby forums, and
with "Programming Ruby" in hand, I''m coming up with zilch. Either I''m
not finding it, or I''m not recognizing it.
I''m assuming there has
