How to have ZFS root with /usr on a separate datapool
.../mnt/usr
/usr/sfw/bin/gtar Ccp /usr . | /usr/sfw/bin/gtar Cxp /mnt/usr
echo >>/zfsroot/etc/vfstab tank/usr - /usr zfs - yes -
If you move /var to a separate partition, make sure you keep /var/run directory in your zfs root.
Tested on b75a and b75a xVm should also work with b70, etc.

zfs boot issue, changing device id
Hi,
Given two disk c1t0d0 (DISK A) and c1t1d0 (DISK B)...
1/ Standard install on DISK A.
2/ zfs boot install on DISK B.
3/ I change the boot order and my zfs boot works fine.
4/ I install grub on the mbr of DISK B
5/ I disconnect and replace DISK A with DISK B
6/ Reboot, get the grub menu select Solaris ZFS and it panics that it
cannot mount root path @ device XXX...
This is not a ZFS

Root raidz without boot
.... and I don''t
feel like repartitioning to accommodate a mirror for /root.
Lori, what do you suggest I should do?
I could just keep all of root minus /usr, /var, etc.. on the usb
thumb drive? and mount the rest from the raidz2 pool... Is that the
only clean way to do it?

This is everything I did:
# root is about 350 megs ... so it should fit nicely on our flash disk.
# let''s make separate partition for /, /var, /opt, /usr and /export/home
# Later we''ll move / to the separate disk (in this case a zfs mirror
pool)
# and we will create a...

Recommended settings for dom0_mem when using zfs
I have a xVm b75 server and use zfs for storage (zfs root mirror and a
raid-z2 datapool.)
I see everywhere that it is recommended to have a lot of memory on a
zfs file server... but I also need to relinquish a lot of my memory to
be used by the domUs.
What would a good value for dom0_mem on a box with 4 gig of ram?

Xen Networking
The ISP will only route packets to the dom0 mac address; they are fully automated and will not accept custom requests. They don''t even support solaris, I had to do the install using vmware to have solaris in native on this dedicated hosting.
DOM0_IP is a public IP and ipv4 forwarding is enabled.
DOMU_IP is a public IP
on the DOM0 side in my /etc/default/inetinit I have:
