multivariate splits
...rform
classification / regression / decision trees using multivariate
splits?
I have done some research, but I found nothing. Packages "tree" and
"rpart" seem only to be able to do CART with univariate splits.
Thank you for your help!

how to modify a function in a R package calling other (invisible?) functions

since this function recalls other functions which looks like invisible... I
downloaded the source package from CRAN,

how can I work it out?

wireframe and margins
Hi everybody,
I'm working with wireframe (and persp) functions, and I'm not able to set
the margins between the 3d plot and the R window... It should be easy,
innit?, but I can't find out which parameters I have to change...
Any help?
Thanks,
ktk

As a complement to what Uwe said, you may want to consider that Sakamoto
et al., in p. 84, Ch. 4, Remark 2, of "Akaike Information
Criterion Statistics", 1986, KTK Scientific Publishers, write "From the relation
between AIC and the entropy, if the differences of AIC's for MODEL(j) and
MODEL(k) is larger than 1~2, then the difference is considered to be
significant". Unfortunately I could not find any further ellaboration of this
corollary any...

FactoMineR
Dear Users,
I installed R Commander and the FactoMineR plug-in. Everything is fine, I can see the new menu,
I can import datasets, but if I want to use any of the items in the FactoMineR menu, i get the following error:
Error in get(.activeDataSet) : object '.activeDataSet' not found
even if there is an active dataset (if there is none, all the menu items are grey of course).
I have R

LUKS create_encrypted_fs
Hi All,
This is my first post to centos-docs. I've read several months of
archives, but, this may be too trivial.
Re: http://wiki.centos.org/TipsAndTricks/EncryptedFilesystem/Scripts
This line:
FREE_SPACE=$(df -m $SECRET_PATH |grep / | awk '{ print $4 }')
gave me a problem due to line wrapping in df. For example:

OS2 - Samba
Hi there,
I tried to connect OS2 Warp 4 to Samba server. The network used to be NT 4.0 Domain, then migrated to Samba to become Domain Controller. I've followed below instruction, and still can't login to the domain. I can get an IP address and ping the Samba server, but can't login to domain and map any network share.

Nested AIC
Greetings,
I have recently come into some confusion over weather or not AIC
results for comparing among models requires that they be nested.
Reading Burnham & Anderson (2002) they are explicit that nested
models are not required, but other respected statisticians have
suggested that nesting is a pre-requisite for comparison. Could
anyone who feels strongly regarding either position

Change factor levels
Suppose I have a dataframe 'd' defined as
L3 <- LETTERS[1:3]
d0 <- data.frame(cbind(x = 1, y = 1:10), fac = sample(L3, 10, replace
= TRUE))
(d <- d0[d0$fac %in% c('A', 'B'),])
x y fac
2 1 2 B
3 1 3 A
4 1 4 A
5 1 5 A
6 1 6 B
8 1 8 A
Even though factor 'fac' in 'd' only has 2 levels, but it seems to bear the

R Commander and FactoMineR
Dear Users,
I helped to install R Commander and FactoMineR to one of my collegaues.
He wanted to do an MCA. Selecting three variables and using the default settings results in only one graph, the variables representation, where he gets three points for the three variables (which is totally fine).
Running the code (output of the point-and-click method)

How to get all possible combinations?
Dear all, suppose I have a vector with elements as:
Vec <- c(2,3,4,5,6)
Now I want to have all possible combination of length 3 using those
elements and without any repetition. Like, I want to have 1
possibility like 2-3-4 but not 3-2-4.
Can somebody guide me how to achieve that in R?
Thanks for your help.

I want to draw surfaces of Dirichlet distributions with different
parameter settings.
My code is the following:

x1 <- x2 <- seq(0.01, .99, by=.01)

term2 <- x1^(a1-1)*x2^(a2-1)*(1-x1-x2)^(a3-1)

Simple MC integration question
Dear Community,
I try to compute the variance of a MC integral where I know the
analytical solution.
The function is exp(-x) integrated on the interval (2,4). (Rizzo example)
The true value is exp(-2)-exp(-4)~.1170196
I have the following short code:
<code>
iter <- 10000
MCs <- numeric(iter)
n <- 5000
a <- 2; b <- 4
for (i in 1:iter){
x <- runif(n, a, b)

I have a MCMC result in x1. I was wondering if there is a simpler, more
elegant way of evaluating the estimate of an integral then this (I am

Also if I want to count the x's say -1<x<2 but not the ones in the burn
in period.

SAMBA 3.0.1 Client for OS/2 and eCS
Hi all,
I'm happy to announce that we ported the latest SAMBA Client to OS/2 and
eCS. It is not a 1:1 port of the Unix stuff, we implemented it as a
NetDrive Plugin which is a very handy way on OS/2 to map network drives.
We also plan to port SAMBA Server in a second stage.
For sure the full source is released under the GPL, including our NetDrive
plugin. You can get the binaries and the
