faster algorithm for Kendall's tau
Hi,
I need to calculate Kendall's tau for large data
vectors (length > 100'000).
Is somebody aware of a faster algorithm or package
function than "cor(, method="kendall")"?
There are ties in the data to be considered (Kendall's
tau-b).
Any suggestions?
Regards

AppDB
How does one go about getting a newer version of an application added to the
AppDB in order to provide reports as to what does and does not work with that
version of the application when run via Wine? In particular I'd like to add my
observations regarding v4.31 of Pegasus Mail but it is not one of the listed
versions.

[Fwd: Problem with write permissions]
No idea why this came to me, and seemingly me alone, but I'm forwarding
to the list, as I assume that is the intended recipient.

Drive Designation
I keep reading on this list where drive C: is referred to as "~/.wine/drive_c"
but on my system (due to no special smarts on my part that would be
"~/.wine/dosdevices/c:" instead. Why this difference? Are the ones who post
basing their operation on an older way of doing things? The ability to use "c:"
rather than "drive_c" seems nicer IMNSHO. FWIW,

Problem with write permissions
...dition is causing Wine to block access
to the partition. I do know that PM is not handling the blocked access at all
well.
I believe that there are problems to be addressed in both pieces of software.
I am sending this message to both support lists.

Hello,
I have a question.

Rebuild of kernel 2.6.9-67.0.20.EL failure
Hello list.
I'm trying to rebuild the 2.6.9.67.0.20.EL kernel, but it fails even without
modifications.
How did I try it?
Created a (non-root) build environment (not a mock )
Installed the kernel.scr.rpm and did a
rpmbuild -ba --target=`uname -m` kernel-2.6.spec 2> prep-err.log | tee
prep-out.log
The build failed at the end:

"Error" Messages
I am using Wine 20041201 to run a Windows e-mail client. In my most recent

Screen Resolution Issue
Wine 20041201
How should I resolve this issue? I don't seem to be able to locate even the
path to the specified registry key. If I could find the key I don't know how I
would go about setting it. Color me extremely green (and I don't mean Irish).

Pseudo Partitions
Is there a requirement that Drive C, Drive D, ... etc. NOT point to a part of
the physical native Linux file system (e.g. reiserfs)?
What I want to do is take directory M:\XYZ (/win/m/XYZ), copy it so that an
image of it appears in /home/me/MPart/XYZ and configure Wine to view
/home/me/MPart as being M;\ if that is possible. But so far, the Windows
application does not like that. Maybe I

blank line at the top of mbox
Hello,
It seems dovecop pop3 server sometimes inserts a blank line at the top
of the mbox. It only happens for certain users not all.
I'm not sure why it's doing that.
Looking back into the mailing list, I saw the same post in Oct 6, 2003
but there was no reply to it.
Is there a patch or fix that i can use to get around the blank line?
Thank you.

Wine 0.9.9 appears to terminate without notification
I use Wine to run Pegasus Mai (PM). I have had very little trouble with this
since Wine changed to Beta status. The exceptions are Wine version 0.9.5 and
now 0.9.9. PM terminates without notification when I send a message by means of
PM when the Wine version is 0.9.9. Fortunately the message that triggers the
termination does get out so all I have to do is restart PM but this is, of
course, a

Comment regarding this list
Just a simple off topic but list related comment:
The message headers in postings from this list seem to encourage off list
responses since the list address only appears in the "To" header. The normal
action when responding (at least by the uninitiated) is to simply reply which
in many cases sends the response to the address in the "Reply-to" header if any

Issue with Pegasus Mail Help Functionality
I am using Wine v0.9.3 to run Pegasus Mail v4.31. I am happy to report that I
am able to shut PM down without "crashing" it as I had to do with the Alpha
versions of the past year or more.
OTOH, I am still unable to display the contents of the Pegasus Mail help file.
When I press F1 (or use Help on the Pegasus Mail menu) I get a window with a
menu (File, Edit, Bookmark, and Help)

Updates
SuSE tries to feed me Wine V20050211 as a security fix for the recent WMF
vulnerability. OTOH, WneHQ says that this is fixed in V0.9.6.
Can anyone tell me how to specify to "YOU" (YaST Online Updater) that I most
certainly don't want that 20050211 version? Not now -- not ever! I am now using
V0.9.7. If I permit "YOU" to perform automatic updates I get clobbered by this
