Distribution Diversity at Shorewall.net
Since RedHat announced the discontinuence of RedHat Linux, I''ve been diversifying shorewall.net. The systems here now are as follows: a) Firewall -- Debian testing (Installed using the Sarge online installer). b) File Server -- SuSE 9.0 Professional c) Desktop -- Mandrake 9.0 d) Web/Mail -- RedHat 9.0 I think that I will wait until I can afford to build a new

Disk Activity Monitor
...e slowness is because it's a USB drive, but I can copy large amounts of data and do permission changes on files, at the same time this script is running, and it all happens quickly. Guess I'm just trying to verify whether there really is a lot of disk activity going on. I tried looking at ksysguard, but wasn't very successful at seeing what I wanted. I'm not sure I want to use yum-pull if it take 3 hours to run per mirror. Right now I'm mirroring FC4, but I also want to do Centos 4.0 and 4.2, and maybe even Suse 9.2. Are there any other disk activity monitors I should try? T...

kworker 100% of single core on mulit-core processor usage inquiry
...r issue where a kworker is using 100% of a given core. This behavior was only observed after having installed a new water cooler, to replace a cooler that had died. (Sealed closed loop device from Corsair) The processor is staying around 40 degrees celsius as reported by the MB UEFI interface. (ksysguard shows between 29 degrees and 30 degrees, when running KDE 4) I am unable to isolate a cause, or resolution for getting the kworker usage back to normal. Very basic description of specs are as follows: AMD FX-8350 (not overclocked) 32GB Corsair memory (1866Mhz non-overclocked) Sabortooth 9...

Dissapearence of the program
...ange behavior. I have also another problem which is not so annoying, but it's also quite strange. When I change Virtual Desktop or I minimize the dictionary then it disappears again and there is nothing I can do in order to restore it. So I have to close it through kill from either konsole or kSysGuard, because close doesn't work also. And the last one and the most irritating is that my openSuse sometimes crashes whenever I open it. Either after some minutes I've opened it or at once.

runaway smbd hogging system & ethernet cable bandwidth
...start ;; stop) stop ;; restart) restart ;; *) echo $"Usage: $0 {start|stop|restart" exit 1 esac exit $? --- The problem was finally found when I tried to restart these scripts on both ends, and kept getting a message that "coyoteroot" was busy, this while ksysguard was showing smbd as using quite a few percent of the cpu. While it was busy a 2 second run of tcpdump got 1132 packets! apcsmart and ambient data (was: NUT and MonAMI plugin)

The data gathered from > MonAMI's NUT plugin can be sent to any of the output plugins. I've just added a new entry on the client projects page. Thanks for your work on this point. > As an aside, I've configured NUT to talk to our APC-8000[3], which comes with > an &qu...
