ksoftirqd_CPU0 extreme CPU usage
...firewall experts ... :) We are using a Leaf box (1GHz 256MB RAM) for a network with normal traffic of about 6Mbps but peaks of up to 40Mbps. The chipset of the ethernets is a Realtek. We are experiencing some high latency high CPU usage issues (the CPU is at 90%) and we discovered the process ksoftirqd_CPU0 could consume up to 50% of that. We are using a 2.4.26 kernel and have NOT compiled any optimization regarding network besides those available on Leaf. This problems have appeared since they stared to use the firewall (sohrewall based) so we think has to do something with it or iptables or tr...

HTB on large LAN
Hello, we are using HTB for dividing 15 Mb/s upload rate to 1022 classes (rate 14 kb/s, ceil 15 Mb/s), but sometimes ksoftirqd_CPU0 uses the most of the CPU-time (over 90% CPU load is casual in such situation). This situation occurs several times a week and takes minutes or one hour and during that time it has enormous packet loss. Reboot of the machine usually solves this problem. Because big differencess between rate --...

call "load balancing"
Hello All, Wondering what sort of real world mileage people are getting out of different internet connecions - i.e. different DSL connection speeds, cable modems, etc... Is it reasonable to hope to carry 10 - 15 concurrent calls on a 768K DSL? I'm not talking about theoretical BW or looking for any difinitive absolute guarantee... With DSL and Cable - there is no guarantee, so I'm

Strange problem, please help
...-- PCI-X PCI Both routers use HSRP from Cisco to share information about who is alive. This app uses multicast UDP packets to 224.0.0.1 address, port 1985. The problem is, after a while (1 or 2 minutes) the CPU reaches 100% (0.99 load 99% System) with the process ksoftirqd_CPU0 reaching 99%. Using iptraf we discover ethernets 4 to 7 (the ones that share the PCI bus) are at full speed. The traffic is on port 1985 and comes from the 2 virtual IP from the redundant routers. It seems they enter an infinite loop and completely kill the system. BTW, the only used ethernets are...

Dual T400P, SMP, performance issues
...al 2.6 GHz Xeon, 2 Gb RAM, 2 T400P, asterisk/zaptel is built with SMP support). On the similar load test (as with the BOX1) BOX2 was showing 0% idle CPU 70% of the time. Just 3 T1s out of 8. On the load test with just 2 T1s BOX3 was very close to 0% idle on CPU0, CPU1 was at 95% idle. The process ksoftirqd_CPU0 was close to the top of the 'top', with /proc/interrupts showing tor2 related numbers growing very fast. We had 2 T1s plugged into the first T400P board, with nothing going into the second, but the number of interrupts for the both boards was growing at the same pace. Here are the interrupt...
