...aid before, once the system is up, I can start samba with no problems. As to dhcp, I suspect that I'm using dhcp on ipv6 b/c I've certainly not set up any static settings. IPV6 is there, but I've not figured out how to bend it to my will (or even what my will is) yet. After reading the instructions at https://wiki.samba.org/index.php/Time_Synchronisation, I still have questions about how samba interacts with nptd. The issue is that LXD doesn't want containers setting the time and so won't start ntpd at container startup even though it's enabled in systemd. The host does sync it's time with a national time server, so we can assume that the

I would like to develop my own ability to build samba for Ubuntu. The Ubuntu packages are woefully out of date. My main question is whether I should build samba with the same configuration options as the Ubuntu packages, or use the default samba configuration. Mostly I'm concerned about the paths. Also, I would build the full version of samba with AD DC and member server capabilities FWIW.

I'm tying to set up a member server for serving files following the instructions at: https://wiki.samba.org/index.php/Setting_up_a_Share_Using_Windows_ACLs. Since I'm not an expert with log files or debugging, I need help troubleshooting the following: When I get to the part where I connect to the member server from the Windows Computer Management tool, I get a long message starting with
