sharing modules scalably
Hi, [First, a quick introduction... I''m one of the sysadmins at Koumbit.org, and we''re evaluating puppet for managing our modest server farm. I''ve already started writing recipes and manifests and intend to share those with this community. Part of my time worked on this will be directly paid by Koumbit.] So we''ve got a few half-finished pupp...

CommonModules common: move "plugins" to "lib"
I''m installing puppet modules from scratch on a new machine, using the code at https://hg.koumbit.net/module-puppet/ btw. The bootstrap script grabs a few base modules (to do dvcs checkouts) from http://reductivelabs.com/trac/puppet/wiki/CommonModules , uses the new modules to get the rest. However, the modules as checked out don''t bootstrap cleanly. The fix is simple, just move modu...

Bug#674907: closed by Bastian Blank <waldi@debian.org> (Bug#599161: fixed in xen 4.1.3-7)
...I ask release.debian.org for a freeze exception for 4.1.3-7? Thanks for the merge! For the record, we have deployed the patch on the Debian squeeze version here and it worked flawlessly on the one server we tried. We are about to deploy it system-wide using our custom package, available on debian.koumbit.net. puppetlast nagios monitoring plugin
We had nodes on which puppetd keeps on dying and we like to know about it. So I wrote a small Nagios plugin (that we run through NRPE, naturally), to process the output of ''puppetlast'' regularly and monitor for boundary conditions. The source is maintaned here: http://hg.koumbit.net/module-puppet/file/tip/files/check_puppet Patches, comments, flames are welcome. machine network interfaces, dhcpd.conf, and zone files
I''m still thinking about how my puppet deployment will go. Right now, I''m thinking each of my machines will have their network interfaces defined/configured by puppet. But, I''d like to generate my zone files and dhcpd.conf from this data as well. How do people generally do this? I expect I''ll end up generating the nodes.pp files from some database, but

Bug#787193: xen-utils-common: xen-init-list crashes with TypeError, renders reboots unfeasible after upgrade from wheezy to jessie
Package: xen-utils-common Version: 4.4.1-9 Severity: important This bug was already reported as #763102 and was brushed off because maintainer says it implicates xend which is not there in 4.4 anymore. However, this problem is present during upgrade from wheezy to jessie and means that reboots are not possible without physical interventions. As noted in #763102, during shutdown, we can see this

Facter - the future - your input needed
-----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE----- Hash: SHA1 Hi all We''re currently looking at the next release of Facter and the future direction of the tool. I''d like to try and prompt some discussions on facter and what people want from it. As a starter here''s some (although not all) of the ideas we''ll be working through: 1. Namespaces - add a namespace or tiered
