I have several xen domu''s running in LVM partitions on the local hard drive. I have added a USB drive and tried to boot a domu from it but it failed. This must be documented somewhare but I checked the Xen 3.0 manual and the word "clock" doesn''t even exist in it. I checked the FAQ as well. I am running Xen 3.0.1 and an AMD64 CPU.
