Hi All:
I'm running Mandrake 8.1 (downloaded) and the install went fine.
Configuring Samba however is another story. I get the message "could not
connect to host - localhost" on the Linux box. I cannot see the network
from the Linux system. The Linux system is visable from Win'98SE as are the
shares but I cannot access them "password is incorrect".

SAMBA 2.0.7
Dear Samba team:
I just download SAMBA 2.0.7 from
http://samba.gorski.net/samba/ftp/Binary_Packages/redhat/
and I have already installed SAMBA 2.0.6 which come
with my red head linux 6.2 CD. But the 2.0.7 SAMBA is
conflict with SAMBA 2.0.6. and it will not allow me
to install the latest version of SAMBA. It gives me
error messages while I am trying to install samba2.0.7

addresses in the valid users = parameter in the smb.conf file. I changed
all of the share IP addresses to NetBios names and voila, everything worked
perfectly.
Christopher suggested that I install Komba2, which I downloaded
but didn't get to the point of installing. I didn't need it.
I thank Christopher Adams and Christian Barth for their assistance.

Samba y Windows 2000!!
Dear friends,
Finally, we've had successfull with Samba. We think so ??. But now,
we've other problem.
At these moment, we can mount resource from PC with Windows 98 in our
Linux. We can do this, either commands of Samba - smbmount - or with
Komba2, that we've installed.
But, we can't mount resources from Windows 2000. There is a machine with
these operating system and with a firewall installed. But, these machine
doesn't receive petitions from our samba, thereby the firewall never
contests something.
For other side, we go on...

Dear friends,
Finally, we've been successful with Samba's configuration. We think so ??.
But now,
we've another problems.
At these moment, we can mount shared resources from a PC with Windows 98 in
our
Linux. We can do it, using either commands of Samba - smbmount - or
Komba2 interface, that we've also installed.
The 1st problem is that we can't mount shared resources from a PC with
Windows 2000. Moreover this machine has
a firewall installed. The firewall doesn't receive any request from our
samba.
The 2nd one is that the PCs with Windows98/2000 can?t see...

can also be used for other services (email, ssh, cvs over ssh, domain

etc etc).
Browsing a windows network can be done with tools such as
Linneighborhood, Komba2, or the network browser in KDE, but they do not
get the password from the login, rather you must manually set the
password they will use.

How to automate SMBMNT
Hi there,
How do I automate smbmnt so that when logging on, it mounts the required
shared directories on an NT4.0 file system using the user name and
password I used t gain access to the GUI ?
I s this possible. I am currently running Network Neighborhood and have
been using this application for access but this requires that I scan
mount and log-on again before gaining access to that share.
