...aded from the Mandrake site in ISO format and burned on CDs locally), will not accept IP addresses in the valid users = parameter in the smb.conf file. I changed all of the share IP addresses to NetBios names and voila, everything worked perfectly. Christopher suggested that I install Komba2, which I downloaded but didn't get to the point of installing. I didn't need it. I thank Christopher Adams and Christian Barth for their assistance. The 2nd one is that the PCs with Windows98/2000 can?t see...

domain logons+linux client
...e windows/samba shares mounted when the user logs in. This authentication can also be used for other services (email, ssh, cvs over ssh, domain member server with ACLs, print server with downloadable print drivers etc etc). Browsing a windows network can be done with tools such as Linneighborhood, Komba2, or the network browser in KDE, but they do not get the password from the login, rather you must manually set the password they will use. I s this possible. I am currently running Network Neighborhood and have been using this application for access but this requires that I scan mount and log-on again before gaining access to that share.
