server-side AND client-side symlinks?
...nterpreted by the _server_
(and the client isn't even allowed to create any).
How can I note which symlinks are server-side and
which are client-side, and have Samba interpret the
server-side ones internally yet at the same time make
the client-side ones visible to the user?
thanks!

how belatedly copy ACLs?
...get `rsync` to understand that "ACL vs.
noACL" is a "difference"?
Alternatively, supposing I give up on getting `rsync`
to actually understand, how can I just "force" it to
deal with every single file ...even the ones it
thinks haven't changed?
thanks!

...script to map the "home" directory to a drive and b] validate credentials right away so it doesn't need to be done at file save time. Currently I do all this with only *one* Samba server acting as both a file share and a PDC; it works tolerably well, but seems overly risky.)

net rpc password?
When I try to execute `net rpc group` it asks
"Password:", then no matter what I enter it's always
wrong.
(I suspect this means I skipped a whole section of
installation I shouldn't have.)
So far I haven't found an answer in the HOWTO; I must
be looking in the wrong spot. Where _should_ I start
looking?
thanks!

Re LDAP adding workstation accounts fails (but not really???)
...mehow hanging about), still the samba binary is
convinced my computer accounts live in ou=People. The process becomes
more odd when I can see in the debug log that the samba binary has
successfully read in my machine suffix.
I find this a bit unusual.

around 5-250k data Points depending on vehicle/road type and pressure
exerted on geotechnical structures. I have used R to develope histograms of
said csv files and will attach such Picture to you in this mail and the csv
used. Below I will type the R code I have used for this histogram.

become_domain_master_query_fail
Hi all,
Everything was working fine with my samba server, until two days ago,
when the clients started to say "domain is not available" when we tried to
login.
Looking at nmbd.log I found some errors but have no idea how to fix
them...It has worked perfectly for almost two years...
Does anyone have an idea?
Thanks,
Lo•c Etienne

loging user actions
Hallo,
from time to time some of our users delete files. But none of them do
confess that they have deleted the file.
I want to find at the samba logs which user has deleted the file. I´m
using the audit-vfs module but there are only messages about opening
and closing of files.
Can anybody give me a hint for using samba logs to find the users I´m
searching for?
Thanks in advance

config-file for recycle bin
I make a recycle bin as follow:
config-file = /etc/samba/recycle.conf
vfs object = recycle
recycle:subdir_mode = 0770
recycle:keeptree = Yes
recycle:repository = Recycle Bin
recycle:versions = Yes
recycle:directory_mode = 0770
But testparm shows:
Unknown parameter encounter: "config-file"
Ignoring unknown parameter "config-file"
What could be the problem and the solution?

using cifs to access posix acl from a linux client
Hi,
We would like to mount a Linux server running samba using a cifs mount
from a linux client (linux->linux) and still be able to access the
extended attributes.
Acl's work on the native filesystem, however when we mount the samba
server on the Linux client using
mount -t cifs //localhost/test test -o username=xxx
Then the extended attributes are no longer visible, only the default

Samba & ACLs?
How exactly do Samba 3.x and ACLs interrelate? With
the mount parameter I've turned on ACLs on the whole
filesystem that Samba has various pointers into
(including all the home directories and the netlogon).
I started out naively assuming that the *nix
uidNumber/gidNumber Samba mapped the end user to would
behave exactly the same whether they were a Samba user
or were logged on locally. But

Rsync sending files that haven't been updated.
I have been playing with rsync for several weeks now, and this is the first
time I have encountered this problem. Rsync is including files that haven't
been updated since the last sync. In fact, it's sending every file in the
folder even if it has not been updated. The current options I am using are
-v -rl -e, what is causing this to happen?

Netfilter, libpcap, ntop and promiscuous mode?
I have a really basic question (I think). We have two boxes connected
to a lan segment on a hub. One is a Windows box running "Show Traffic",
the other is a CentOS 5 Linux box running "ntop". Both boxes should be
able to sniff all of the traffic on that hub (not a switch).
The Windows box does just fine, Show Traffic is able to display traffic
destined for other boxes

"ERROR: Unknown host - any host" My configuration suddenly don't work, why?
Hi, i have been using shorewall for 3 months, and shorewall was working
well, but i don''t know why, when I type "shorewall start" o "shorewall

I have two files of rules:
The first:

samba password hashes exposed to ldapsearch
After setting up Samba to work with an FDS LDAP server:
http://directory.fedoraproject.org/wiki/Howto:Samba
... I see that the samba password hashes are shown with a simple ldapsearch
command.
If you scroll to the bottom of the page linked above and see the search
results for:
ldapsearch -x -Z '(uid=testuser)'
You will see the hashes:

number of aces in big endian format?
Hello,
Not exactly samba but related to ntfs acls, so hope do not get flamed!
Recently I am seeing a response to get security descriptor query to Windows
server as Malformed Packet in wireshark trace and the number of aces
in the dacl in
big endian format. I thought all the data over the wire was in little
endian format!
I have seen this on Windows XP and Windows Server 2003.
Have not
