Geom label lost after expanding partition
...s, but brings back the old issues of having to edit the fstab any time the drive is moved. Does anyone have any idea how to get the labels to work again? I'm not even sure what tool displays what label as I can label with glabel, tunefs, and newfs -- R. Kevin Oberman, Network Engineer E-mail: kob6558@gmail.com

Boot hangs on v9 system at CD device probe
.... Does anyone remember this being reported by others? It was most likely on current, as it was probably prior to the release of 9. I googled around, but could not find it. I'd really appreciate it if anyone can point me toward a solution. Thanks, -- R. Kevin Oberman, Network Engineer E-mail: kob6558@gmail.com

FreeBSD 9.0 - GPT boot problems?
....org/index.php/Unified_Extensible_Firmware_Interface > It's not clear from your message, but did you use the gpart bootcode > command to write the protective MBR and the gptboot code as documented > in the gpart(8) man page? > -- > R. Kevin Oberman, Network Engineer > E-mail: kob6558@gmail.com The gpart bootcode command is quite apart from and unrelated to (as far as I can tell) the EFI partition. I think the EFI partition is supposed to be the first partition on a GPT-partitioned disk. I have installed FreeBSD to a USB stick, GPT-partitioned with three partitions: boot, roo...

FreeBSD 9.0 - GPT boot problems?
Hi, I just installed FreeBSD 9.0-release / amd64 on a new machine (Acer Aspire X1470). I installed from a usb memory stick (the default amd64 image), which I booted by pressing "F12" and selecting it from the boot menu on the machine. I installed on a SSD (which replaced the hard drive originally in the machine), using the default scheme for 9.0 (GPT). The installation was painless (many

...bably the primary reason I might not have realized that there was a problem as I don't boot the system often except when traveling, which I was between July 1 and July 6 and again July 18 when the system died. Any idea what I might try looking at? -- R. Kevin Oberman, Network Engineer E-mail: kob6558@gmail.com

Installing FreeBSD 9.1 amd64 on IBM x3550 M3
Hello, I'm trying to install FreeBSD 9.1 amd64 on an IBM x3550 M3 server. Installation went smoothly, RAID controller and network cards were successfully recognised. But, after the installation, the server fails to boot from disk. There were some posts, about two years ago, in this list implying that the problem lies in UEFI but I couldn't find any clear solution. Any suggestions would

Increasing the DMESG buffer....
Hi, As a next question to my building this server. I'm nogt able to get a full verbose dmesg. Probably because the kernelbuffer for it is too small. I know there used to be a kernel option to increase it. But I can not find it with the setting in NOTES or any other place I looked.... Is it still there? Thanx, --WjW

FreeBSD 10-CURRENT and 9-STABLE snapshots
Hi, A number of FreeBSD users have displayed interest in the availability and testing of -STABLE and -CURRENT snapshot releases. I have been working on generating snapshots regularly, and now would like to announce their availability for those interested in testing. Please note, as always with the -STABLE and -CURRENT branches, these snapshots are not intended for production systems. The

every 2nd echo-request malformed when ping -s >4067
Hello, while checking new mtu9k-setup, I discovered that ping has some odd behaviour. If I use payloadsize > 4067, every 2nd icmp-echo-request seems to be malformed: ping -s 4068 -D 10.5.49.65 1st: 12:21:09.048447 IP 10.5.49.126 > 10.5.49.65: ICMP echo request, id 46597, seq 0, length 4076 0x0000: 4500 1000 0f2d 4000 4001 a507 0a05 317e 2nd: 12:21:10.052891 IP 10.5.49.126 >

Why Are You Using FreeBSD?
Hi Everyone, This is off-topic, so please feel free to disregard it, but I'm sending it to this list in the hope that it will reach a largish number of users. I am currently looking at updating some of our advocacy material (which advertises exciting new features like SMP support), and before I do I'd like to get a better feel for why the rest of you are using FreeBSD. If you had to
