Copying local profiles to domain profiles...
I just set up a Samba 3 PDC, and my users want to use their local
profiles. Unfortunately their XP systems won't allow them to copy their
existing profiles - that option grays out for their local accounts. Is
there another way to accomplish this?

winbind fails "getent passwd eknuds"
Now I'm trying to make it so the Samba accounts can be used for user
logins as well. Unfortunately I'm having a bit of trouble with winbind.
Whenever I try to do a "getent passwd eknuds", it find the entry in the
ldap sam, but the winbind log for my domain comes up with this and the
getent displays nothing:

Dueling master browsers...
I'm having trouble with my Samba 3 PDC and several XP Pro workstations
stealing the master browser status on the network.
These users won't log in to the domain. Logs and purified smb.conf
attached.

Buffalo Terastation with 3.0.23d PDC and LDAP backend?
I have my system properly running as a PDC now, but I'm having trouble
getting one of the machines here to join the domain.
This system is a Buffalo Terastation Pro. For this system I have to
create the machine trust account manually. The domain access fails as
follows:

Samba 1.9.17 server is not showing up in PDC browser list.
Hi,
I've just upgraded to Samba 1.9.17, but I can't get my samba server that
resides in a differnet subnet to show up in the PDC's browse list. I've got
samba configured as the local browse master and am registering with the wins
server with:
domain master = no
local master = yes
preferred master = yes
os level = 65
wins support = no

Samba performance
Hi all.
I know this has probably been asked before, but I need a quick answer, and
didn't find anything on the net.
Has anyone done any benchmark comparisons of server speed from Win95
clients, accessing files on a Samba 1.9.17p1 server share, as compared to
an NT Server, running on the same server hardware? If so, how did Samba
1.9.17 measure up to the NT server?
I need an answer to this,

Ubuntu 14.04 as an Active Directory Domain Controller
To start, I've been using Samba for almost 20 years.
I wanted to use Samba as an AD DC for my businesss.
Ubuntu 14.04 comes with Samba 4.1.6. This is a little out of date right
now as 4.1.13 is available and 4.2 is in release candidate status, but
it works.
I used the Samba AD DC Howto
(https://wiki.samba.org/index.php/Samba_AD_DC_HOWTO) as an aid to get it
going, but there were some

W2KSP2 Profile and 2.2.2 hell...
I recently got suckered into upgrading to SP2 by Microsoft's auto update
program.
Since this broke profiles I upgraded to 2.2.2.
In the process of upgrading I set up the Profiles share and tried to move my
profile into it.
Unfortunately W2K insisted on trying to log in with the profile still in my
home directory where nt acl support was not disabled. In an attempt to
coerce it into looking

smbldap-useradd says "Error: modifications require authentication at /usr/lib/perl5/5.8.8/smbldap_tools.pm line 1056."
I'm trying to get Samba 3.0.23d set up to run as a PDC on SuSE 10.2.
I'm getting *very* close, but I have one small issue.
I can't add users. When I run:
smbldap-useradd -a <a new user> -m
I get the following in the messages file:
