Centos 5 on Large Disks.
...disks with H/W Raid 5. I plan to allocate the space as follows swap 8G /boot 100M / 20G -- and remaining space to /data{1,2,3,N} (equal sizes) However after the installation and reboot, i got an error about bad partition for /data8 I had hit the 2T limit. Then i found this page at http://www.knowplace.org/pages/howtos/linux_large_filesystems_support.php which speaks of using Parted/LVM2 and XFS. If i understand this correctly, I need to have 1 disk to host the CentOS installation. And i can use the other 5 disks in a RAID array (label type gpt...) Is it not possible to partition and use the...

kernel configuration and tc commands for traffic shaping
Hi, I wished to shape the traffic that cross my ppp0 interface so I asked around and google''d a bit and I headed in the LARTC HOWTO. As stated in the early in the text, as the title implies, that is an "Advanced" HOWTO and while by no means rocket science, some prior knowledge is assumed. Unfortunately I found myself lost very soon and I''m writing here in hope

...dwidth limitations using QoS more specificly iproute2. That way icecast2 doesnt have to take up extra resources to handle bandwidth limitations. resources here cbq bash script http://aleron.dl.sourceforge.net/sourceforge/cbqinit/cbq.init-v0.7.3 the low down skinny on traffic shaping http://www.knowplace.org/shaper/resources.html Now if your on windows then Microsoft says it handles bandwidth better than linux and is cheaper than linux so i guess QoS works automagikly ;) then again i think linux just works the way its supposed 2 and windows doesnt :O) Hope that helps :) <p><p><p&...

Traffic shaping: upload should not hurt download
Hello! I have a small home network and I''d like to use traffic shaping because every time someone uploads a file at full speed, my download speed drops to ~10 KB/s. My connection is 768/128 DSL. I found a script at http://www.knowplace.org/shaper/examples.html $TC qdisc add dev $INTERFACE root handle 1: htb default 60 $TC class add dev $INTERFACE parent 1: classid 1:1 htb rate 116kbit $TC class add dev $INTERFACE parent 1:1 classid 1:10 htb rate 32kbit ceil 116kbit prio 0 $TC class add dev $INTERFACE parent 1:1 classid 1:20 htb...

Hi, I am the network administrator of my company, I know quite well Windows networking and a few about Linux and its amazing routing and QOS capabilities. Right now, we have a bustable T1, which mean that the bill increase with out T1 use. I have decided to find a way to shape the traffic so I can stay at a raisonable speed of 256 kb/s (Up/down) on my T1. I have linux gateway with 2 nics behind a

Too slow computer?
Hello! I''ve put some questions on this list some weeks ago and I''ve got good answers. Thank you! Now I''ve finished my (beautyful) script and I ran it on my router... About my script: It routes packages based on their destination on the Internet. I have about 1650 preffered destination networks listed in some file. The script read this file and marks every package for
